NEW YORK – The Seton Hall women's basketball team is predicted to finish fifth in the 11-team BIG EAST Conference according to the Preseason Coaches' Poll released on Tuesday. Additionally, Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) was named a Preseason All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention.
Seton Hall had 58 points to place fifth. Connecticut, a perennial national title contender, was the unanimous choice to win their third-straight BIG EAST title. Creighton has been picked to finish second with 90 points, Marquette is third with 79 points and Villanova is fourth at 76 points.
Baines is coming off a strong first season at Seton Hall. The 6-foot-1 forward averaged 8.5 points per game in BIG EAST play and ranked second in the conference with a .561 field goal percentage. Baines erupted for a career-high 29 points on 12-for-16 shooting at DePaul on Feb. 15, and averaged 15.4 points and 7.8 rebounds over the season's final eight games. Baines spent the summer traveling around the world as a member of Team USA's 3x3 squad.
