Derrick Gordon to SH

Just commited per twitter. Will be interested to see who leaves. Hope it's Ajou
Great news on a lot of levels. Welcome! Feel like we can finally move forward to next season.

Derrick Gordon welcome to Seton Hall University. You are a very talented basketball player, followed your career at St Pat's and looking forward to following you next year at Seton Hall. Your committing to Seton Hall made my day.

This may be im reading it wrong, but it says that Gordon is a 6'3" guard who shot 0.083 from 3 averaging almost 30 minutes per game for two seasons per ESPN? Are these stats possible? Hes a shooting guard and his other stats are good. Scores pretty well and steals well. I just have a hard time believing he only made one 3 in 2 seasons with those mpg?

almost as crazy as our other transfer guard shooting 50% from the line

Gordon is not the best offensively except for getting fouled on drives. He is much better defensively. Will make the team better but this team has a lot of holes in it, not a top half Big East team IMHO.

Fantastic person with a persevering life story, the players can certainly learn something from him if they so choose.

I know this has been your stance, and I don't necessarily disagree, and I'm not trying to claim we are a "top 3 in BE and tournament team", I just think Gibbs' departure may give some of these younger guys room to breathe and let them develop. And possibly help the locker room situation. Not saying we are better without him, just saying some of the upside of IW, Carrington, etc. can be better realized with a different team dynamic. Who knows. I'm just happy with the commitment and ready to move on to next season.

Major hole filled. Going into next year with two guards would have been insane. Seems like a good kid that has overcome a lot. This team will go as far as last years freshmen growing up takes it.

Welcome Derrick. We're glad to have you join our school and team.

Let's go Pirates !!!

Thanks SPK, because I haven't seen him play. Sounds like defensive specialist/slasher. I was just baffled by the stat for a SG. Gonna be a little tougher to have him out there on offense with 30 second clock with one less shooter. His other stats are real solid though.

He was 1-12 from 3 last year. He only shot a 3 in nine games and I would be surprised if he got that many shots from 3 next season. He's going to add much needed depth and defense for a backcourt that's lacking both. He'll be, at best, the fourth option on offense whenever he's on the floor. He's a great addition because of his style of play and what this roster needs.

Type of player this team needs. Very good news and a strong pickup this late in the game.

We were getting him unless something out of the ordinary happened. His dad really wanted this and helped big time.

Gordon's family thought SHU was a perfect destination for their son and with Sha leading the way it happened.

Gordon is not Sterling Gibbs. He won't provide the offense but on the other side of the ball he'll become a defensive stopper at the 1 & 2 and in certain situations the 3 as well.

Proud of SHU for stepping up and not shying away from his sexual orientation which is none of our business. The important thing is how he conducts himself on and off the court and moving forward we'll see the answer in the positive.

Well done Sha and welcome Derrick!!!!!!!!

“As long as I’m accepted, that’s all that really matters." Derrick Gordon opens up about his commitment to Seton Hall

Two things to note: Shaheen Holloway brokered this and deserves a lot of credit. Also: Gordon's family really wanted this.

Gordon said some schools weren't interested because he's gay. Acknowledged the Fr. Hall situation, but said SHU coaches made him feel wanted

Speaking with @WSOUSports, Derrick Gordon said, "As long as I'm accepted, that's all that really matters to me." Great interview underway.

How Seton Hall's hierarchy handles the spotlight that comes with having the sport's first openly gay player . . . we'll see.

Derrick Gordon makes Seton Hall a better team. Rugged defender, rebounds, gets to the rim, doesn't need a ton of shots. Important addition.

Won't win more than 4 games in Big East. Who will be the shooter? Whitehead will have the ball in his hands and will force more shots. Carrington can't shoot and Derrick Gordon might as well be Shaquille o'neal from 3 point line.Losing Gibbs and gaining Gotdon? Not even close!

I disagree. Gordon is a quality pick up and a superior defender. I do think our team will be good next year. We are talented but lacked experience last season. We were Freshmen oriented last season and with a years experience & maturity I expect us to make a run at a NCAA tournament bid.

No one is saying that Gordon will replace Gibbs. But this late in the game picking up a quality transfer at a position of need is critical.

Plus it doesn't hurt to add a strong and positive influence in the locker room.

Seton Hall is a better team with him than it was without him and that's the most important factor. Will he give us what Gibbs did probably not but he does fill a position of need and his defense is a plus.

A very nice pick-up. But like the rest of the players , his time as a Pirate will be short.

Unfortunately, we do not have a program- we have a one season team.

Having said that, Derrick seems like a good young guy and I hope he enjoys his time with us.

Welcome Derrick. We needed another guard in a desperate way. Getting a guard with his experience given Gibbs departure is a great pick up.

Seems like another reach to me. A 2 guard who can't shoot to go along with the other 2 guard who can't play D. I don't care if he is straight, gay or goes both ways. I have never asked anyone in my life what their sexual preference is and I doubt I ever will. Doesn't really matter to me. I think most of you guys want to be so politically correct that you are looking past his skill level.

I think this sums up my feeling exactly. A two guard that can't shoot is not filling any hole adequately. This again is another ridiculous attempt of Willard trying to fill out a roster in which he is incapable of. If anything, we needed a point guard. I don't know how in the world you get a two guard who can't shoot.

By the way, when Gonzo was here, people killed him for the amount of transfers he brought in here. However, Willard has brought in more transfers than Gonzo. Transfer U indeed!
