Fu & Myles Mack arrested in paterson

Question. Why do some so called SHU fans post more often when there is bad news. Where were you fans when Fu was doing very good in the NBA Summer League, or why not post something about Sam Dalembert signing with the Dallas Mavericks, Craig Biggio being inducted today in the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.

Absolutely, kudos to Craig Biggio who was only granted a partial scholarship to Seton Hall and is now being inducted into the BHOF. When was the last time a basketball player was given a partial scholarship? Stand proud today Seton Hall as a fellow son of Seton Hall represents us with both honor and dignity.

You know what I find funny?

That Catholicmans posts about wanting the school/school body to be better Catholics are almost always denigrated
on this board.

Now I personally find his opinions to be WAAAAAAAAY outdated and unrealistic, but of course, I find the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church just as outdated and unrealistic. This is why I'm now a Protestant after being raised in a Catholic home. I would never want to belong to an organization in which I don't subscribe to their core values, yet millions of Americans do, including many of you on this board.

I have a TON of respect for Catholicman because he lives what he preaches. He seems to me to be the rarest of American Catholics-the one who remembers he's a Catholic the other six days of the week. I rarely ever agree with him on off-the-court situations. But he's no phoney.

Muggsy: Your post is off topic but just to clarify most all baseball scholarships are partial as the NCAA only allows enough ships to fill less than 50% of the roster. That's the way it goes with non revenue sports regardless of the school.

Fu & Myles arrested for solicitation. Wow have the mighty fallen. Victims of their own stupidity. Maybe they'll show up on Cops. Pathetic.

While most baseball players are on half scholarship, the coaches Are creative and other resources to make up a good portion of difference through whatever academic money they can get as well as through work study. At the end of the day most baseball players will get a college degree for less than the cost of a parochial high school.

Well said. Why anyone here would denigrate a Catholic priest for stating what the theology says is beyond me. If you find what he says funny, you're probably not a Catholic. You don't have to be Catholic to have a connection with Seton Hall -- but why support something you don't agree with?

There were a couple of really stupid comments, one from an unexpected source, regarding our laws and morality. You don't have to be a theologian to see the influence of the 10 Comandments, and, in the beginning, common sense, in our legal code. How does what's right and true ever become outdated? Morality isn't "seeping into" the laws, it was the foundation.

Unfortunately, while at SHU Fuquan did not get very good formation. We should have an honor code for our team against fornication. My impression is that our players are taught an anything goes morality as long as they show up to class, do their academic work, and go to practice. We need to do a better job at forming the young men and women in our sports programs and in the general student body. Authentic Catholic teaching is liberating; it leads to happiness if followed.

"An honor code against fornication ..." You're the best, Catholicman."

It seems to have been a sting, so they were set up to some degree. And they were stupid as can be. But can't two basketball stars find some other form of companionship?

Religion aside, being caught in a hooker sting run by the Paterson PD is a level above a traffic offense in terms of seriousness. Fu grew up in a world of violence, beatings, murder, drugs, etc. Being pinched for attempted solicitation of a prostitute is no big deal. His attorney will probably get a plea deal akin to violating a municipal ordinance. This is a non-issue as far as I'm concerned.

The biggest shock for me was that there is a female officer on the Paterson PD that is hot enough to impersonate a hooker...

unfortunately, the Patterson police just arrested probably the most law abiding citizen and biggest role model for the kids in the projects and now ruined whatever Fu's chance at getting a call from an nba team this summer. It would have been better in my opinion to throw them in the slammer for a few hours without actually charging them with a crime. A good police officer uses good judgment for the good of the community, and in this case I don't believe it was used. For example, in the town where my office is the police chief tells officers when the pull someone over for a traffic stop, to not go hard on law abiding citizens but to spend time and energy and to search cars where there is a greater chance of drug use and etc..
Hopefully Fu will come out of this a better person and reaches his dreams in the nba.

15 people were arrested on that sting op.

I just think that Paterson was not one bit safer after taking Fu off the streets. I'm glad the police setup these stings, but for a local kid who was never arrested and just received his college degree, they could have let him go with a warning. And if an NBA scout has a list of a few guys and they have to choose one, it won't be the guy who was arrested for soliciting a prostitute a few weeks prior.
They likely don't check college transcripts when picking up someone breaking the law.

I watch Cops, sometimes they role out a PO that looks like a dude... you'd think FU could get some legit stank.

If it was indeed a women.. now wouldnt THAT make catholic man go nuts! Pun intended!

Where did it say "she" was hot? Likely, "she" was not. Total lack of judgment by both of them (Fu & Myles).

lol...I was just thinking that if you're going to pay for a hooker, you would think that she was attractive (especially if there was some peer pressure!!).

Attractive girls squeeze out money from men the normal way. They dont need to be prostitutes.

There was a very good looking female officer in a town that will remain unidentified that would pose as a hooker. Cars would be pulling over for her constantly. lol. It was a bit unfair, but what were these guys thinking? Did they really think a woman that hot would be walking the streets in this bad section of town?

Street walkers are usually drug addicts trying to get money for their fix. Needless to say they look like hell. Pretty pathetic. Any independent good looking girl in an escort that is never on the street and advertizes on the internet. Very difficult for law enforcement to police that.

While to some this may be a harmless crime that the Patterson police should be spending time doing other things. But the fact is there is a legitimate purpose. First, no one wants to see crack head women wagging their tongues at motorists in their neighborhood. Second, if the Johns are too scared to come down looking into the neighborhood for these prostitutes, then the prostitutes will not prowl the streets. It is a quality of life issue. And although I am in favor of legalizing prostitution, I understand why a city like Patterson will occasionally set up a sting operation.

were the 13 guys all together that were arrested along with Fu? I don't think Fu & Myles were picking up a street walker. I got the vibe that this woman was undercover and hired by the group of men.

Under NJ law there is no distinction between either being the purchaser or seller . For the first offense it is treated as a Disorderly Person crime with penalties ranging up to 6 months in jail and a $1,000 fine.If a car is used the judge MUST suspend the drivers license for 6 months. Whether that applies to the driver only or any person in the car is unclear.

For repeat offenders the penalties become much more harsher .

Basketball only gives out full scholarships whereas most baseball players only get partial scholarships and there is currently a limit of 11.7 total scholarships which can be split up among players. (if memory serves me- the total scholarship number may have been different in the Biggio days)

This has already been addressed 3x. Thank you.

Wow..............I honestly feel its a mix-up even more than a set-up. No way two young guys under 27 years old would be out soliciting! I would bet it was them having fun and saying the wrong things. Now if it was guys over 30 and 40 with pot bellies caught I would understand. There are way too many gorgeous NJ women who would have been more than happy to hang with those two guys. I would bet they saw the gorgeous undercover officer who is most likely from another town and flirted and the officer asked pointed questions such as you need money to hang with me and they answered we got money being the big shots they want to be and the officer kept going till they said sure we will give you money! I will bet this goes away because again I feel this was just two young guys having fun and it went south. Check the stats of men who pick up hookers. Never under 30!

LFball, are you kidding me? Your theory that guys under 30 would not go to hookers is completely off. Age has nothing to do with it except for the correlation of the ability to pay for sex. Here is the more common occurrence. Guys are hanging out. Guys started to drink. Guys after drinking are horny. Guys see good looking hooker. Guys want oral sex. Guys ask for how much?

BS... He grew up in the ghetto, but he went to and graduated from Seton Hall. Shame on Fu. Always liked him, and from his bb demeanor thought he was a sharp guy. He is an embarassment to himself and the university.
