Hack Named BIG EAST Player of the Week; Payero Tabbed Honor Roll

South Orange, N.J. - Redshirt junior center fielder Devin Hack (Somerville, N.J.) has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week after hitting .400 with eight hits and seven runs scored in a 4-1 week for the Seton Hall baseball team. Graduate student Nick Payero (Monroe, N.J.) was tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after striking out eight in seven innings on Friday, leading the Pirates to a victory in game one against Xavier.

Hack scored a team-best seven runs in five games and tied for the team lead with eight hits. He had a career day against Xavier in game one on Friday where he registered personal bests with eight hits and three runs. He also went 2-for-4 and scored a run in the series clinching victory on Saturday against the Musketeers. Overall, Hack posted three multi-hit performances, including two against Xavier, went 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts and didn't commit an error in center field while making 11 putouts.

Payero set the tone for Seton Hall's series win over Xavier when allowed only two hits and two runs while fanning eight in seven innings on Friday. Payero's third win of the season saw him match his career long in innings pitched for the fourth time in his career. He retired six consecutive batters to end his outing, including three by strikeout.

The Pirates will be back in action on Wednesday at 4 p.m. when they host Manhattan at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium.
