BRONX, N.Y. – Senior Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) erupted for a game-high 35 points and the Seton Hall women's basketball team upended Fordham, 78-72, for its seventh straight win on Saturday.
Park-Lane was brilliant when the Pirates needed her most, scoring 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting in the fourth quarter alone. As a team, The Hall was 7-for-10 in the final 10 minutes and connected on 13 free-throws to pull away late.
Park-Lane also had five assists, which leaves her one shy of Ka-Deidre Simmons' career record.
Senior Sha'Lynn Hagans (Manassas, Va.) was the lone other Pirate to reach double-figures in scoring. She had 10 points and was perfect shooting today, going 3-for-3 from the field and 4-for-4 from the line.
THE STORY:
Fordham scored the first five points of the game, but The Hall bounced back with a 16-3 run, capped by a steal and score by Hagans that sent Fordham to an early timeout. Down 20-12, the Rams closed out the first quarter with an 8-0 run, holding The Hall scoreless for the final 3:15 and tying the score at 20.
The teams played a nearly identical second quarter with the Pirates taking a 36-33 lead into the break. The Hall shot 47.1% from the field in the first 20 minutes, but allowed too many easy Fordham buckets.
In the fourth quarter, Park-Lane took over. With the score tied at 53 in the fourth quarter, she scored on a floater, and on the next possession, had a three-point play to boost The Hall to a 58-53 advantage with 7:00 left to play. With 4:19 left to play, Park-Lane hit a dagger three-pointer to boost the Pirates to a 66-56 lead. Down 70-60, Fordham went on a frenzied 7-0 run to cut it to a one-possession game with 1:04 left, but Park-Lane found Alexia Allesch (Basking Ridge, N.J.) under the basked for an easy two up The Hall's lead back to five, 72-67, with 42 seconds left. Amari Wright (Jacksonville, Fla.) then stole the ball and was fouled.
THE NUMBERS:
- Seton Hall was 28-for-62 (45.2%) from the floor for the game, while Fordham was 29-for-73 (39.7%). The Hall was 4-for-12 (33.3%) from three-point range, while the Rams were 6-for-25 (24.0%).
- Park-Lane had 35 points on 12-for-26 shooting and was 3-for-6 from three-point range and 8-for-11 from the free-throw line. She also had five assists.
- Both teams had 40 total rebounds and 11 offensive boards.
- Hagans had 10 points and was perfect from the field, going 3-for-3 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. She also pulled down nine rebounds and had two steals.
- Seton Hall was 18-for-27 (66.7%) from the free-throw line, while Fordham was 8-for-10 (80.0%).
