Congrats to Jerry C and his lovely wife

Jerry celebrated his 30th anniversary recently.

He posted this on Facebook.

To celebrate 30 years as a couple, Diana and I took the kids to Ocean City. During our first summer together, Di wanted to ride the giant Ferris wheel at Gillian's Wonderland, and I did it without telling her that I was terrified of heights. (I guess love conquers all?)

Sufficiently traumatized, and having successfully wooed the girl, I refused to ride it every subsequent summer -- until this weekend.

With Gillian's closing for good this fall, I decided it was time to close the loop. It was not easy, but to quote Ferris Bueller, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

There was one more shot at this, kids included this time, and I did not want to miss it.

There was online threats in 2023 and law enforcement actually interviewed the kid. What would you like the FBI to do? What was the crime? Did they have probable cause to arrest or search? Apparently not. Or are you saying that we should now be arresting for thought crimes? How are you laying blame at the feet if the FBI?

Is this just a mental health issue? Ok then the laws of Georgia should be criticized now for not having any background checks or red flag laws at all.
You're suggesting there's no preventative measures, it's either you have to arrest the kid or just move on and since he didn't actually do anything at that point you just let him go. There's nothing in between. How about stop and frisk on a kid like this? How about with a kid like this in the school metal detectors are required in the school. I wish we got this upset every time someone has a heart attack, we could stop even more deaths.

Access to guns is slowly becoming like access to phones. Your parents have safe guards so you can't access but anyone can find a way in
Like anything else there needs to be accountability and penalties. More convictions like the parents of the Illinois shooter.

Any legislation to keep guns out of hands of the high risk population is a good idea, but you have to start where the biggest risks are and go from there. I just don’t see this happening at least in my lifetime.

14 year old shooter was known of by the FBI. Yet crickets from the corrupt department.

Harris

Yes not a good look for any politician but Trump has walked into the lions den essentially talking to almost anyone who wants to talk while Kamala and Walz only sat with Dana Bash so far.
Every thing that is being done by either candidate is because of their political strategy. With Trump he goes into what you say are lions den because maybe he is trying to expand his base and get more votes. Harris strategy may be just playing it close to the vest and just wants to reinforce her base. Whatever the case the undecided vote will be the difference in the swing states to determine the winner .

Crooked Ben Sasse

Fwiw, “the audit committee investigated” does not mean an audit was performed. It means that the group charged with oversight looked into the matter and did not find an issue that concerned them.

That’s not uncommon when looking into a specific claim, though may or may not have been thorough enough when self policing and wanting to avoid bad press.

Not normal at all, but no reason to change laws. This is a mental health problem and a law enforcement problem. Shooter was known to LE, yet they did nothing.

What could they have done?
The FBI can’t just show up and arrest the kid. Georgia does not have red flag laws which would have allowed the removal of guns out of the home.
Georgia is also lenient on parents who are negligent and they are only liable if they knew a crime would be committed with the guns.

Yes, it is a mental health issue but there is also more we can do with the law to mitigate risks.

Neither party is going to address this with any legislation. Dog whistle issue that no one has the fortitude to address the real problem.

Only one simple change needed. No change to right to owning a gun. Just hold the parents accountable. Watch what happens when parents get 20 years behind bars for their kids taking their guns to school. They’ll make sure their kids don’t get their hands on them. And if their kid has mental health issues they’ll be extra cautious.
