The Giants - New Low. Approaching Howard Beale Status

I've read three articles from three guys that cover the Giants closely today and yesterday. All of them are saying "how can we have confidence in Schoen and Daboll to pick the next QB at this point and improve the team?" Duggan has the best article in The Athletic but Politi isn't far off either. Essentially these guys have crapped the bed in a big way and its not just the QB decisions. These are the guys that will pick the next Giants QB if retained. The only damning evidence that could come out is if Mara was the one pushing for the big DJ contract. But it sounded like no other teams were negotiating for DJ and the Giants backed themselves into a corner with the tagging decision of either Jones or Barkley. They negotiated against themselves and got it all wrong and weren't strong enough to get a good backup to replace Jones earlier in the season if he tanked. Instead they had a bad Drew Lock and a third stringer in Cutlets. Between the owners and the GM and Coach what a mess.
There are certainly enough draft whiffs. You have to be really overconfident in them to allow them to make the decision. If they get it wrong you are just getting stuck in the same cycle in 3 years. Who knows? Maybe the plan is to not draft a QB and tank for 2026.

Seton Hall’s point guard situation is in a state of flux heading into Charleston Classic

I’m not exactly sure what leads us to believe Dual is a PG anyway? I’m not buying his absence as a reason for our major struggles. Everywhere you can find he was listed as a combo guard. I know that’s not that legit but still.

Even in Carino’s article after Dual committed to seton hall he mentioned that he’s better in the open court and not half court sets. So that says to me he’s just another guy that relies on athleticism to get straight to the hoop for a layup and not somebody that can create or distribute.

Bullish

I remain Bullish on this team.

The defense is rock solid.

We have many players who can bring the ball up the court and handle the ball—lots of interchangeable pieces.

Coleman, Middleton, and Dual will find their footing and put up numbers.

Tuomi is a good PF.

Jenkins can be counted on.

Give them time......We have the talent and the pieces to make a run and beat a few good teams.

Lots of basketball to be played.

Okay I was done with this thread but nothing grinds my gears more in sports than the whole “player X is familiar with the system”

Why is it that EVERY single head coach and OC/DC supposedly has some sort of magical “system” that nobody else in the history of the NFL has ever produced before?

Daboll asks his QB’s to do something different than every other team? I think the objective is clear. Find the open man, throw a good pass. It’s not rocket science, nor does it take “familiarity”.

Devito is playing for 1 reason and 1 reason only. To see if he has the ability to be a super cheap backup QB next year or do the giants need to find a starter AND backup.

These articles are pure clickbait. “How can you have confidence they can pick a QB”. Umm how about the fact they never did pick a QB. So where’s the basis to believe they can’t? Pure nonsense

Why Chris Holtmann decided to take a chance on lowly DePaul

Saying and doing the right things. We'll see how it works out. Some interesting excerpts.....

1) Holtmann got the assurances and conditions required before accepting, and to Peevy's credit, he knows his job is on the line with this hiring as well. To that end, DePaul's NIL budget has purportedly snowballed and is no longer paltry. In agreeing to a six-year deal, Holtmann also gave up some of his own would-be salary to increase the pool for his staff to be at a competitive level in the Big East.

2) For as strong of a hire Holtmann was to DePaul, he also brought on a staff that's got loads of experience, which is crucial at a place prone to massive disappointments. In addition to keeping Paris Parham as an assistant, Holtmann hired three guys with head coaching experience: former Miami University Jack Owens, former Southern Illinois coach Bryan Mullins and former Butler coach LaVall Jordan, who is the team's general manager.

3) Said Holtmann: "I'm not sure there's a more important, critical issue when it comes to winning and losing consistently right now than roster construction. Does the roster fit the head coach? Does it fit his style of play, and where can he morph it a little bit? Does he fit in terms of personality? It is so critical."
