I know it is early but this is shaping up to be a disaster

Seton Hall rallies from two sets down to shock Georgetown in five sets.

WASHINGTON – Senior Jenna Walsh (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) had a season-high 19 kills, and just one attack error, in only three sets to lift the Seton Hall women's volleyball team to a thrilling, 3-2 (23-25, 10-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-11), come-from-behind victory on Wednesday.

It's the first time that Seton Hall has rallied for a victory after losing the first two sets since Nov. 24, 2019, coincidentally also at Georgetown. The Pirates have now won four of their last six matches this season.

Walsh, inserted into the match to begin the third set, provided the needed spark and erupted for 19 kills, only one attack error, a .562 attack percentage and six digs.

Sophomore Senna Roberts-Navarro (Honolulu, Hawaii) and graduate student Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) also provided the offense a lift. Roberts-Navarro had 14 kills, nine digs and two blocks, while Lucas had 10 kills. Graduate student Maddie Klungel (Napa, Calif.) had a double-double with a career-high 53 assists to go with 14 digs, five kills and two blocks.

SET 1:
The opening set featured 11 ties and four lead changes. A kill by Roberts-Navarro gave The Hall a 19-17 lead, but Georgetown answered with four of the next five points to jump back on top, 21-19. An ace by Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkiye) tied the set at 21, but the Hoyas scored three of the next four points to enter set point. A kill by Lucas staved off set point, but Georgetown won the set on the next point, 25-23.

SET 2:
The second set was one of the most-lopsided Seton Hall has played all season. The Pirates had only a .065 attack percentage, while Georgetown had a remarkable .522. The Hoyas led wire-to-wire, sprinting out to a 12-1 lead. They went on to an easy 25-10 victory to take a 2-0 match lead.

SET 3:
Enter Walsh in set three, and the Pirates looked like a different team. Trailing 12-11, Seton Hall scored four straight points and a block by Klungel and Laila Wallace (Munster, Ind.) put it on top, 15-12. With the score tied at 22, a kill by Wallace and a Georgetown attack error put The Hall in set point. Two points later, a kill by Lucas kept the Pirates alive with a 25-23 set three win.

SET 4:
In the fourth set, both teams recorded an attack percentage over .300. Down 19-16, the Pirates went on a 7-1 run, and a kill by Lucas gave them a 23-20 advantage. After the Hoyas cut their deficit to 23-21, back-to-back kills by Roberts-Navarro gave The Hall a 25-21 victory and tied the match at two sets apiece.

SET 5:
In the fifth set, Walsh erupted for seven kills, no attack errors and an .875 attack percentage. With the score tied at seven, Seton Hall scored four in a row, three of the points coming on Walsh kills, to give it an 11-7 lead and force the second Georgetown timeout. The Hoyas scored the next two to cut their deficit to 11-9, but the Pirates tallied three of the next four points to enter match point on a kill by Roberts-Navarro. The teams finished the match by exchanging service errors.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Walsh had a match-high 19 kills with only one attack error, a .562 attack percentage and six digs.
• Roberts-Navarro tallied 14 kills, only four attack errors, nine digs and two blocks.
• Klungel had a double-double with a career-high 53 assists, 14 digs, five kills and two blocks.
• Junior Mason Woo (Burbank, Calif.) had a team-high 20 digs.
• Lucas notched 10 kills.
• Seton Hall recorded a .235 attack percentage for the match, while Georgetown attacked at .285.
• The Pirates had 64 kills, while Georgetown had 63.
• The Hall recorded 71 digs, while the Hoyas had 76.
• Seton Hall collected 7.0 blocks and Georgetown had 8.0.

NEWS & NOTES:

• The Hall improves to 12-16 overall on the season and 6-11 in the BIG EAST, while Georgetown drops to 10-19 overall and 3-14 in conference play.
• Seton Hall is now 25-24 all-time against Georgetown and has now won four in a row and eight out of the last nine matches in the series.
• It's the first time that Seton Hall has rallied for a victory after losing the first two sets since Nov. 24, 2019, coincidentally also at Georgetown.
• The Hall improves to 2-2 this season in five-set matches.
• Walsh reached 15 kills in a single-match tonight for the eighth time in her career.
• Klungel topped 30 assists in a single-match tonight for the 14th time this season and the 18th time overall in her career.
• Klungel's double-double is her team-leading 11th of the season and the 17th of her career.
