Pat Hobbs abruptly resigns as Rutgers AD

I think most of it will be forgotten in 2 months. People will quickly get back to talking football and basketball. Nobody is going to say oh yeah that's the school where the AD had an unusual interest in gymnastics. How many people here knew RU had a gymnastics program 30 days ago.
Agree….this is not a Larry Nassar problem (hopefully!!). RU has mishandled three AD’s in a row (Pernetti- politics, Hermann - incompetent DEI hire and now Hobbs). At the end of the day, it’s a program other P4 schools think is a walking joke, so this really changes nothing.

As bad as it is for Hobbs, and it is bad, it's really bad for Rutgers, a public institution whose President put out a statement that was at best misleading. While ongoing investigations are confidential, a public entity can't go along or put out a concocted story and state that is the reason for someone's departure.

The difference between the SOTU and the debate was shocking. Combine that with the fact that the debate was moved up so much more than the normal presidential debate cycle? I think they knew what they were doing.

Either they wanted to see if Biden could get through a debate as soon as possible so they could replace him before the convention if needed, or they already knew how bad it would go. The frustrating part is that I think Biden could have had a more successful term if his plan from the start was that he would only serve one term and the candidate to replace him would have earned it through a primary. I'm not a fan of how this all went down.
The reason Joe is out is because big funders cut off their funding. If they kept giving he'd still be in the race today. I want to know did all of these big funders decide on their own or who was the someone behind the scenes telling these people hold onto your money until we make the change.

I agree that he should have been that transitional President but what happened? Was he just that power hungry? Was the fear of Trump that great? It is perplexing.

Does this mean Trump shouldn’t be charged with any crimes due to the Hur doctrine?

It's not a new doctrine that you would not bring charges if they thought they would fail.

On the classified documents cases, part of the problem with charging Biden was that they would have to prove intent which is something that would be difficult since he cooperated.

Trump because of his efforts keep and hide the documents after the investigation began made the intent obvious.

Trump team brought campaign staff to film a campaign video, which is against the rules. They were told not to in advance, still released the video and you think the employee trying to prevent them from filming is “probably culpable” somehow?
Where am I giving the people in Trump’s team a pass? Like I said, there is probably shared culpability and something got escalated between two people. Release the footage…it’s easy.
It’s not a huge deal… but they were wrong to fill there and I don’t think the army, who tries to stay apolitical, would have confined it if it didn’t happen.
Agree…It’s not a big deal….way more important things to worry about.

The youthful, idealistic Merge would never have posted anything so cynical. The middle aged, angry Merge apparently does.

Three things struck me about this whole thing which we still don’t know all the information:
- horrible job by RU in public relations. Put out a vague and misleading statement that creates more questions.
- what is Hobbs thinking and using his health as a reason. That’s an awful look.
- we see this time again, where people in top positions that have influence and power throw away a career and legacy with poor judgment and decisions in the final professional years.
