THE GAME

Seton Hall will return to action on Wednesday, December 20 when it begins BIG EAST Conference play in Washington, D.C. against Georgetown. Tip time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.

LAST GAME

The Seton Hall women’s basketball team scored the first nine points of the game and never looked back, routing the previously undefeated, No. 23 UNLV, 84-54, for its fourth straight victory on Saturday.

The Lady Rebels entered the contest with one of the highest-octane offenses in the country, averaging 84.0 points per game, but struggled mightily with the Pirates’ physicality and were dominated in the paint. The 30-point Seton Hall victory is the highest in program history over a ranked opponent.

The Hall’s defense held No. 23 UNLV to season lows in points (54), field goals made (18), rebounds (25) and shooting percentage (.300).

Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) collected a double-double with game-highs of 23 points, on an efficient 8-for-11 shooting, and 11 rebounds. Micah Gray (Oklahoma City, Okla.), Kae Satterfield (New York, N.Y.) and A’Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill.) also reached double-figures in scoring.

AGAINST GEORGETOWN

Seton Hall and Georgetown will renew their long BIG EAST rivalry when they open conference play on Wednesday. The Hall owns a 44-30 all-time series lead, but had its seven-game winning streak in the series snapped last year in D.C. The teams split the 2022-23 season series with each team winning at home. The Pirates’ last victory at McDonough Arena was a 60-50 win on Feb. 9, 2022.


SCOUTING GEORGETOWN

The Hoyas are coming off a 14-17 record last season, which included a 6-14 mark in BIG EAST play. Georgetown earned the No. 9 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament and defeated No. 8 Butler in the first round before falling to Connecticut in the quarterfinals.

Head Coach Tasha Butts passed away on October 23 following a two-year battle with breast cancer. Darnell Haney was named interim head coach for the season, he was previously the associate head coach. The Hoyas lost just two starters from a season ago and return a talented group battling for minutes including Kelsey Ransom, graduate students Graceann Bennett and Jada Claude as well as junior Brianna Scott. Ransom led the team a season ago, averaging 12.6 ppg and was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Among Georgetown’s newcomers is former Pirate Mya Bembry who transferred for her graduate season after three years in South Orange.

Georgetown was picked to finish 10th in the 11-team BIG EAST according to the 2023-24 Coaches Preseason Poll.

Despite all of its preseason adversity, Georgetown has stormed out of the gate this season with a 9-1 record overall. The Hoyas have been winning on defense, which is allowing a BIG EAST low 46.5 points per game, which also ranks second in the nation. Georgetown’s lone loss came at McDonough Arena on Nov. 12, a 45-43 loss to Brown. Since, the Hoyas have won seven in a row and are coming off a 60-44 victory over Wake Forest on Sunday.

Kansas City, Mo. - The Seton Hall men's basketball team shot 59 percent for the game and saw each of its starters score in double figures as the Pirates closed out non-conference action with a 93-87 victory over Missouri on Sunday evening.

Al-Amir Dawes (Newark, N.J.) led the way with 25 points and four made threes, while Dylan Addae-Wusu (Bronx, N.Y.) posted his best night in a Seton Hall uniform with 20 points, six rebounds, six assists and four triples. Dre Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.) also poured in 19 points along with eight rebounds on an 8-for-13 clip from the field.

How It Happened

Dawes came out hot out of the gate, connecting on his first two three-point attempts. Missouri jumped out to a six-point lead, 16-10, at the 12:35 mark in the first half but the Pirates countered with a 10-0 run sparked by Addae-Wusu, who scored eight of Seton Hall's next 10.

After a Missouri three trimmed the Pirates' lead to one, 20-19, The Hall used a 9-2 spurt to extend its lead to eight, 29-21, with 6:28 to go in the half. The closest the Tigers would get after that was when they trimmed their deficit to two, 32-30, before Dawes and Addae-Wusu connected on back-to-back threes that pushed Seton Hall's lead back to eight with 2:37 left in the first.

Every time the Tigers went on a run, Seton Hall had an answer. A Missouri layup at the start of the second half cut their deficit to two again but Davis cashed in on a wide open three-pointer on the next possession that kicked off a 12-1 run for the Pirates. Seton Hall was holding on to a 68-56 lead with seven minutes to play when Bediako collected his own offensive rebound and put it back in the basket that made it 70-56. Back-to-back buckets by Dawes — one a fast break layup, the other transition three — gave the Pirates their largest lead of the game at 19, 75-56, that forced Mizzou to call its final timeout of the game.

The timeout sparked the Tigers and it cooled the Pirates' hot shooting. A 14-1 run got Missouri back within single digits but Richmond and Bediako answered the bell with tough baskets in the paint that gave the Pirates a 10-point lead, 80-70, with 2:25 to go. The Pirates would cash in on their free throws down the stretch as they navigated Missouri's full court pressure for their first win away from home this season.

Do schools list--- or does any group list--- how much their basketball players earn through NIL as well as teams' total takes? How does our total compare, for example, to PC's, St. John's, LaSalle's, or Fairfield's?

I read the value of Paige Buecker's and Azzi Fudd's deals. Both players have lucrative contracts with NERF. With whom do our guys have deals? How much NIL money does Richmond make?

On a recent search of top NIL earners, two young basketball players either at or going to Duquesne and Austin Peay are on a top 20 list: really???

I have no clue.

The talent on this team is better than its record. But to date the whole is less than the sum of its parts.

This is not a pure home game for Missouri and the game time on a Sunday might hold down the crowd. But until Holloway's roster shows it can compete against a power 6 team it's tough to predict a victory.

Great distraction from Pirate basketball. I could not wait several weeks ago for Pirate basketball since the Giants were so bad. Who would have thought I would be tuning back into the Giants because Seton Hall is hard to watch. Tommy Devito is a great story and I was able to stay awake last night to watch. Amazing! He is exposing some of Daniel Jones flaws. Offensive line actually looked pretty good last night, kid hangs in the pocket and throws the ball down the field what a concept. He was making great decisions last night, something Jones doesn’t always do. At least for one night Giants were fun to watch. Curious now to watch again next week and thats refreshing.

Despite my complaints about having to buy jerseys of the current roster I sucked it up and bought two as Christmas gifts. I ordered on Nov. 27 and the tracking still shows it as just “order placed” so I’m guessing they won’t make it in time for Christmas.

For those that have ordered jerseys and received them - how long do they normally take to arrive? Any chance I don’t end up printing out a picture of the gift to give out on Dec. 25?
