Stats

Jacksonville, Fla. - The Seton Hall baseball team hit four home runs and surpassed 10 runs for the eighth time this season in a victory over North Florida on Saturday, 11-4.

How it Happened

The Pirates got the scoring started early, as Danny Melnick (Hamilton, N.J.) roped an RBI double into the gap in right center. The early lead would be short lived, as a home run in the bottom of the frame tied things back up at 1-1.

In the fourth, The Hall began to flex its offensive muscles and pull away. Joey Calabretti (Perkasie, Pa.) slugged the first of pair of Pirate three-run home runs to give Seton Hall a 4-1 lead. The homer was the second of the season for the freshman.

Andrew Bianco (Kings Park, N.Y.) would follow in the fifth with a three-run shot of his own, sending one over the wall in left center to extend the Pirate lead to 7-1.

North Florida would get three runs back in the sixth inning to make it a 7-4 game, but the Pirate bats went back to work in the late stages to maintain the lead. In the seventh, Zack Sylvester (Montville, N.J.) hit a solo home run to make it an 8-4 game. One inning later, Staus Pokrovsky (Pittsgrove, N.J.) helped cushion the lead with a two-run shot, the fourth of the day for Seton Hall.

Frankie Scrivanic (Tinton Falls, N.J.) added an extra insurance run in the eighth with an RBI single to right, bringing Melnick across home plate with the 11th Seton Hall tally.

Ryan Reich (Selinsgrove, Pa.) got the start on the mound for the Pirates, working the first 4.2 innings and allowing just one run. Alex Nicolosi (Stony Point, N.Y.) earned the three-inning save, allowing just one hit and striking out a pair in his outing.

The Pirates wrap up their weekend series with the Ospreys on Sunday afternoon with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.

Consistency

It has been proven that the best teams in the BE maintain the core of the team from year to year then add in some portal players and a great couple of freshmen. We have two of the best guys in the BE who still have a year of eligibility left. Kadary and Dre. They will take a chance at their prospects in the NBA, but if we can hold onto them, we need a big NIL number. Dre has a family. Kadary is a prototypical NBA player who doesn’t have a 3. It will take a lot, but I really think that they could use one more year and be the stars of the league. We need a huge growth in our NIL, but it would be worthwhile to spend everything we have on the two of them. How much? That is the question and can we get there.
