Stats

Macon, Ga. - Seton Hall scored six runs in the eighth inning to take the lead for good and Cole Hansen (Skillman, N.J.) struck out six in 3.2 innings out of the bullpen as the Pirates claimed the series-deciding game at Mercer, 9-7, on Saturday morning.

Zack Sylvester (Montville, N.J.) went 3-for-4 including a base hit that drove in the go-ahead run for the Pirates (16-12). Jay Allmer (Asheville, N.C.) registered his second save of the weekend.

How It Happened

Despite recently returning from an injury, Devin Hack (Somerville, N.J.) continued to his strong series as he led off the game with a single to right field. He moved to second on a walk and took third on a passed ball before a grounder off the bat of Pokrovsky drove Hack home as the Pirates took a 1-0 lead.

Ryan Reich (Sellinsgrove, Pa.) struck out the side in order in the home half of the first and he fanned two more batters in the second inning. Mercer jumped in front on a two-run single in the bottom of the third but the Pirates quickly tied the score up at 2-2 in the top of the fourth when Danny Melnick (Hamilton, N.J.) scored on a fielding error by Mercer's second baseman.

A four-run bottom of the fifth put the Bears ahead, 6-2, but Hansen came out of the pen to record the final out of the inning. Hansen struck out the side in the bottom of the sixth and another Mercer error helped bring home a Seton Hall run as Cole Zak (Cleveland, Ohio) crossed the plate in the seventh to cut the Pirates' deficit to three, 6-3. Hansen recorded two more strikeouts in the bottom half and it set the stage for a six-run top of the eighth.

Melnick and Andrew Bianco (Kings Park, N.Y.) got the inning started with back-to-back singles. Casey Cumiskey (Milltown, N.J.) came off the bench as a pinch hitter and he delivered with an RBI single that made it a 6-4 game. Cumiskey and Bianco moved into scoring position on a wild pitch and consecutive groundouts were enough to bring home two more Seton Hall runs that knotted up the score at 6-6.

The bases were now empty for the Pirates with two outs when Aiden Robbins (Yardley, Pa.) was hit by a pitch and Staus Pokrovsky (Pittsgrove, N.J.) singled to left field on the first pitch that put two runners on. Sylvester then stepped to the plate and drove in the go-ahead run on a single to right center that gave the Pirates a 7-6 lead. Viera was the next batter and he drove in two key insurance runs on a two-run single to center field that extended The Hall's lead to 9-6.

Hansen continued to deliver as he followed the offense's big inning with a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth. Despite the Bears scoring a run in the ninth and loading the bases, Allmer was able to retire the side for his second save of the week.

Indianapolis, Ind. – Seton Hall improved to 9-1 over its last 10 games with a 2-1 victory over Butler in extra innings on Thursday afternoon at Butler Softball Field. Lela Allen (Phoenix, Ariz.) delivered the game-winning RBI single in the top of the eighth inning to give the Pirates the victory.

How it Happened
Kelsey Carr (Ridgewood, N.Y.) got the start in the circle for the Pirates and dominated once again. She worked three clean innings to start her day, allowing just two baserunners and one base hit. The only blemish on her record came in the fourth inning, as a home run from Paige Dorsett gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

The Pirates, who put runners on base in all but one inning on the afternoon, would level the score in the sixth. Carr doubled to open up the frame, and pinch runner Amber Johnson (Belfair, Wash.) would eventually move down to third after an infield single. Caroline Hobbes (Bay Shore, N.Y.) hit into a fielder's choice which allowed Johnson to come home with the tying run.

After Carr stranded the winning run in scoring position in the seventh, the Pirate bats went to work in the eighth to try and capture the win. Back-to-back singles from Olivia Gilbert (Johnston, R.I.) and Katey Brennan (Yardley, Pa.) opened the inning, and Hobbes would lay down a sacrifice bunt to move both into scoring position. LELA ALLEN stepped up and lined a single into center field, scoring Gilbert from third with the eventual game-winning run.

News & Notes
  • Allen collected three hits on the afternoon and now has six multi-hit games over her last 10 outings.
  • Allen is batting .417 (15-for-36) over her last 10 games.
  • Carr earned the win to improve to 6-6 on the season. She pitched all eight innings, allowing one run and striking out five.
  • Brennan and Erin Howard (Skillman, N.J.) each also collected two hits on the day.

Siena and Gerry Mac

Somewhat dated. Seemed like a guy who would never leave Syracuse. Had a cup of coffee overseas but came back and stayed. I think he’ll make a great head coach. Gritty competitor. Not unlike Sha

Next Year - Kadary

I think most would agree, he will probably make more $$ next year in an NIL situation vs. a 2-way contract or G league type situation and will be able to continue improving his stock to be in a potential 1st round type situation.

What is it going to cost SHU to keep him another year? With programs like Kentucky, Kansas..... even St. Johns able to offer kids 6 figure contracts, will SHU be able to match?

One thought I had last night was that if the Seton Hall fanbase had an idea of the exact number it would take (and not an arbitrary insane number thrown out) and we could watch the progress of that money being raised... I'm sure we could do it collectively.

Part of the hesitation with blindly donating to Onward Setonia is that there really is no transparency as to how much is coming in, how it is exactly being used -- suppose this is a larger issue of NIL deals being done behind closed doors.

Regardless of what Kadary does, it's been such a joy watching him play this year. There is no doubt that with him, Addae and Dre back next year, SHU will be in a great position both from a financial and competitive standpoint.

Felt highlights importance of Subscriber Support - $40,000 and climbing!

The following message is in the AD Newsletter this morning. Onward Setonia offers Subscription memberships at 3 levels, $25/month, $50/month, and $89/month. Each level comes with benefits. Our goal is to achieve $250,000 in recurring annual payments, which would be a tremendous boost to our NIL resources:

We’re now almost six months into the existence of Onward Setonia, our official NIL entity that is gaining steam every day, and I want to continue to stress that in today’s collegiate landscape, we need our fans to support our student-athletes’ ability to earn compensation for their name, image and likeness.

There are many ways to get involved, and I’d like to point out that Onward Setonia is seeking out 250 subscribers to its Guardians membership, which is $89 per month. If Onward Setonia can reach that number, over $250,000 will be raised per year that can help our student-athletes and help our programs flourish in this new era of NIL.

Please read more about Onward Setonia’s Guardians membership and I hope you’ll consider becoming a member!
