Salisbury, Md. - Junior Honey Strosnider (Fairfield, Pa.) put up a solid 6K time of 21:31.2 to led the Seton Hall women's cross country team to a third-place finish at the Salisbury Fall Classic, Saturday at Winter Place Park.

Strosnider improved her time in this race, as she finished with a 22:09.50 at Salisbury in 2023. She placed sixth overall out of 116 runners.

The Pirates had five runners finish in the top-30 of the race. Behind Strosnider was senior Julia Smith (Pittsgrove, N.J.), who also placed in the top-10, with a ninth-place finish and a time of 21:43.7. Smith was the defending women's champion of this race.

Sophomore Paige Quigley (Sacramento, Calif.) ran a 22:02.7 to come in 18th place, and sophomore Caitlin Fahy (Ringwood, N.J.) came in 26th (scored 25th) with a time of 22:19.5.

Kauschke Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, Pétursson Also Recognized

NEW YORK - After scoring the lone goal to help the Seton Hall men's soccer team defeat Manhattan, 1-0, freshman Til Kauschke (Hamburg, Germany) has been named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. This is the second straight week that the Pirates have earned one of the conference's top weekly honors.

In addition, sophomore Jon Vigunr Pétursson (Selfoss, Iceland) was recognized on the BIG EAST's weekly honor roll for his part in helping the Pirates beat UAlbany and complete a shutout against Manhattan.

Kauschke has been aggressive in his shot taking so far this season, and it paid dividends this past Sunday when he one-timed a pass from Jared Smith (Longfellow, Mass.) in the box, blasting it past the Jaspers goalkeeper in the 68th minute. It was his first career goal.

Pétursson was solid as a defensive midfielder centerback in both the Manhattan game and the 2-1 win over UAlbany. After Sam Bjork was tripped in the box with 48 seconds remaining in the second half of a 1-1 match with the Great Danes, it was Pétursson's name that was called to take the penalty kick, and he converted to give the Pirates the 2-1 win.

Kauschke, Pétursson and the Pirates have started 3-0-0 for the second straight season and look to start 4-0-0 for the first time since 2008 when they host Columbia Friday at Owen T. Carroll Field at 6:56 p.m. The game is free for all to attend.

Pirates Strike First But Can't Hold On At Princeton

South Orange, N.J. — Despite an early first half goal from senior Chiara Pucci (Munich, Germany), the Seton Hall women's soccer team was unable to come out with a massive road victory as Princeton came from behind to beat the Pirates, 3-1, on Thursday evening.

It marked Pucci's second goal of the season and her career. Sophomore Lily Camacho (Summit, N.J.) earned her first assist of the season. The Pirates (2-1-2) will have another tough road test on Sunday when they take on North Carolina at 1 p.m.

How It Happened

Seton Hall more than held its own through the first 10 minutes against Princeton, an NCAA Tournament team from last season and one of the most consistent programs on the East Coast. The Pirates drew a free kick in their attacking half following a foul and Camacho stepped up to take it. She sent a strike into the six-yard box where it found the head of Pucci whose second goal of the season gave The Hall a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute.

With less than 10 minutes to go before halftime, Princeton was able to equalize after the Seton Hall defense played a stingy first half. The score was still knotted up at 1-1 midway through the second half when the Tigers pulled ahead in the 69th minute to take a 2-1 lead. Despite two corner kick opportunities, five shots and two shots on goal after halftime, the Pirates were unable to add to their tally as Princeton came out on top at home.

News & Notes

  • Five Pirates played the full 90 minutes; Pucci, Natalie Tavana (Middletown, Conn.), Rachel Gerrie (Littleton, Colo.), Olivia Beauvois (Windsor, Conn.) and Kylie Ray.
  • Pucci now has two goals and four points on the season and she's up to seven career points.
  • Camacho has three career assists.
  • Princeton had a 13-7 edge in shots and a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Five corners were taken with Princeton taking three and the Pirates taking two.
  • Tavana had the second most shot attempts of the game with two.
