QUEENS, N.Y. -- Senior Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) went 4-for-5 with his team-leading fourth home run of the season as the Seton Hall baseball team routed St. John's, 15-4, to salvage the final game of the three-game series on Sunday.

Seton Hall's 19 runs are the most for a Pirates' team in a BIG EAST game since defeating Villanova, 20-0, on April 25, 2004.

Annunziata entered the day batting just .196, but the All-BIG EAST performer reached base five times, drove in three RBIs and got the Pirates' offense started early. Senior Kyle Grimm (Bergenfield, N.J.) singled to lead off the top of the second inning. With one out, Annunziata launched a home run over the left-field wall to give Seton Hall an early 2-0 lead.

In the third inning, St. John's got a run back on a sacrifice fly to cut the Pirates' lead to 2-1, but Seton Hall's offense exploded in the next half inning. D.J. Ruhlman (Belle Mead, N.J.) led off with a single up the middle and moved to second on a Grimm walk. After both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch, Tyler Boyd (Succasunna, N.J.) grounded out hard to first base and Ruhlman narrowly beat the throw home to score the Pirates' third run. Annunziata followed with a run-scoring single past a diving third baseman to extend The Hall's lead to 4-1. Mikael-Ali Mogues (New York, N.Y.) singled to advance Annunziata to second. Jackson Martin (Collegeville, Pa.) struck out for the second out of the inning, but that's when St. John's pitchers lost control of the plate. Derek Jenkins (Annandale, N.J.) walked to load the bases and then St. John's pitchers forced in six runs via four walks and two hit batsmen.

In all, Seton Hall sent 13 men to the plate in a seven-run fourth inning, which gave the Pirates a commanding 9-1 advantage.

Leading 10-4, the Pirates' offense cranked up again in the top of the sixth inning. Boyd walked with one out and moved to second on Annunziata's third hit of the day. After Mogues walked to load the bases, pinch hitter Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) singled to drive in two more runs. Jenkins followed with a single up the middle, which scored Mogues to extend The Hall's lead to 13-4. Red Storm pitcher Joe Kuzia sent a pickoff attempt over the first baseman's head and down the right-field line, allowing Ramiz to score from second. Weigel followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Jenkins and the Pirates lead was a robust 15-4.

Ramiz entered the game in the sixth inning, but reached base three times, going 2-for-2 with a double and a career-high four RBIs.

Weigel also had four RBIs.

Mogues reached base a career-high four times, singling and walking three times. He also scored three runs.

Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.)wrapped up a fine weekend against St. John's by reaching base four times today. The sophomore went 2-for-5 with two walks, a runs scored and an RBI. Poduslenko batted .500 for the series collecting at least two hits in all three games.

Seton Hall starter Zach Schellenger (Malvern, Pa.) earned the win and improved to 2-1 on the season with five innings of four-run baseball.

The Pirates' bullpen again turned in a strong performance. Five relievers combined to allow just two hits over the final four scoreless innings.

Seton Hall (17-12, 4-2) will return to action on Tuesday, April 14 when the Pirates host Monmouth at Owen T. Carroll Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

QUEENS, N.Y. -- St. John's put up six runs through the first four innings as the Seton Hall baseball team lost to the Red Storm, 7-4, on Saturday.

With the loss, the Pirates drop the season series to St. John's and a potential standings tie-breaker at season's end.

Kyle Grimm (Bergenfield, N.J.) reached base three times to lead Seton Hall offensively. The senior went 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and two runs scored.

Grimm led off the top of the second inning with a double down the right field line. St. John's starter Ryan McCormick then plunked D.J. Ruhlman (Belle Mead, N.J.). Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) grounded out to move both runners into scoring position, and another ground out, this time by Tyler Boyd (Succasunna, N.J.), produced the first run of the game.

A day after the Pirates defense made three errors, their defense let starter Shane McCarthy (Fair Haven, N.J.) down twice in the bottom of the second. Grimm made a fine play on a hard hit grounder down the third base line, but threw high of first base, allowing St. John's Jarred Mederos to advance to second base. Troy Dixon followed with a single through the right side to drive in the tying run. With two outs and a runner on second, St. John's Michael Donadio hit a scorcher that ricocheted off McCarthy to Chris Chiaradio (Teaneck, N.J.), but the second baseman misfielded the ball, allowing Dixon to score with the go-ahead run, 2-1.

In the third inning, McCarthy ran into trouble again. After a single and double put two St. John's runners in scoring position, Troy Dixon hit a three-run home run to give the Red Storm a commanding 5-1 lead.

Trailing 6-1, Seton Hall cut into the Red Storm lead in the sixth inning. Junior Derek Jenkins (Annandale, N.J.) walked to lead off and advanced to third on a single by Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.). Zack Weigel (Oak Park, Ill.) followed with an RBI ground out to second base, which plated Jenkins. After Grimm walked, Ruhlman delivered a deep fly ball to left field, which was caught, but was deep enough to score Poduslenko and cut the St. John's lead to 6-3.

In the seventh inning, Dixon struck again for the Red Storm. The sophomore delivered a run-scoring triple against reliever Dan Ditusa (St. Charles, Ill.) to extend the St. John's lead to 7-3. For Dixon, his five RBIs today matched his season total entering the game.

Seton Hall attempted a two-out rally in the top of the eighth inning. Grimm walked and Ruhlman doubled to right-center field, advancing Grimm to third base. Mikael-Ali Mogues (New York, N.Y.) was hit by the first pitch from Thomas Hackimer and the bases were loaded. Boyd walked to force in a run and cut the Seton Hall deficit to 7-4, but Chiaradio grounded out to second base to end the inning.

McCarthy took the loss for Seton Hall. The freshman pitched only three innings, giving up four earned runs.

The Pirates' bullpen however, pitched well again for The Hall. Sam Burum (Robbinsville, N.J.), Ditusa and Joe DiBenedetto (Staten Island, N.Y.) combined to limit the Red Storm to just one run over the game's final five innings.

Seton Hall will conclude its three-game series with St. John's tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Sophomore Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.) went 3-for-4, but it wasn't enough as the Seton Hall baseball team fell at St. John's, 5-1, on Friday to snap its nine-game win streak.

Seton Hall (16-11, 3-1) got a run courtesy of the first batter of the game, but then was shut down over the next eight innings as St. John's starter Cody Stashak and relievers Matt Clancy and Joe Kuzia combined to allow only four additional hits.

Zack Weigel (Oak Park, Ill.) started the game with a bang. In the top of the first, the junior sent a high-arching ball off the top of the right-field wall for a triple. When the St. John's right fielder bobbled the ball, Weigel broke for the plate and scored the first run of the game.

The Pirates' lead didn't last long however, as St. John's greeted Seton Hall starter Zach Prendergast (Horsham, Pa.) rudely in the bottom of the first. Back-to-back singles to lead off the inning put Red Storm runners on the corners with no outs. A fielder's choice drove in the tying run, but Prendergast did a fine job of limiting the damage to just one run.

St. John's (17-11, 4-0) offense continued to click in innings two and three, posting single runs in both to take a 3-1 lead.

The Hall appeared poised to get a run back in the top of the fifth inning. With one out, Poduslenko singled hard off the back of Stashak, and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches. But alas, he was stranded there.

Tyler Sanchez led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo home run to give St. John's a 4-1 lead and chase Prendergast from the game.

Prendergast took the loss with three earned runs in four innings to fall to 4-3 on the season.

The Red Storm tacked on another run off reliever Anthony Elia (Flanders, N.J.) in the seventh inning. Despite the lone run, Elia pitched very well. The senior threw four innings, allowing just four hits with four strikeouts and only one walk. All three of Seton Hall's fielding errors came on Elia's watch too, and the left-hander did a good job of limiting damage.

Seton Hall will resume this three-game series with St. John's tomorrow afternoon. Fi
