No, not that #2. This #2....

Richmond is the no doubt about it star on this team but he will need to have a supporting cast

On any given night you will see Al Amir Dawes go off and have one of those games. A game where he's unconscious from the arc and plays within himself.

Maybe on another night you'll see Wusu, who to date seems to be a quiet assassin also have one of those games. You know 3-4 shots from the arc. Multiple rebounds. High IQ basketball and toughness when toughness is needed, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

BUT

More often than not the major supporting actor in this play will be a 6-6 swing forced to play an unnatural position. A swing who will start at the 4 spot and maybe even at times have to play the (heaven forbid) 5 as he did for good portions of the NJIT game in the second half.

He won't complain. But he will excel in whatever task his coach assigns.

The forward is obviously Dre Davis and to be honest 2 weeks ago maybe I would not have started this particular post. But two weeks ago I hadn't seen him play with this current roster.

To call Davis a glue guy is not giving him a fraction of the credit he deserves. I saw him play well, very well, behind closed doors, and while doing so Coach Ryan Whalen came up to me in the middle of the practice and simply said watch out for Dre. That sent a message.

Now this past Saturday Davis was the second best Pirate on the floor, but in truth that's not saying much as anyone in attendance would attest to. I'm not saying he played poorly, he didn't. But it was so evident that he is crucial to this roster and there will be games, probably many, where he is the best Pirate on the court. And I don't say that lightly.

Health is the key and to date that hasn't been an issue. But if we get a healthy Dre Davis then I have no issue saying he's our second best/important player on the team.

Agree/disagree????
