2016 Advocare Invitational Bracket

Pirate Blue Travel Packages to Orlando

Charlotte, N.C. - The Seton Hall men’s basketball team’s first-round opponent for the 2016 AdvoCare Invitational has been revealed, and the Pirates will take on the Florida Gators of the SEC on Thanksgiving night Nov. 24 at 8:30 p.m., at HP Field House at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla., live on ESPN2 and the WatchESPN app.

In this bracket-format tournament that features 12 games over three days, the Pirates will then play either Gonzaga or Quinnipiac on Friday, Nov. 25 at either 7:30 or 9:30 p.m. After an off day, The Hall will compete on Sunday, Nov. 27 in the final (1:30 p.m.), third place game (4:30 p.m.), fifth place game (7 p.m.) or seventh place game (11 a.m.).

Fans interested in supporting the Pirates in Orlando can register for the Pirate Blue trip Nov. 22-27, which includes tickets to all three Pirates games, hotel accommodations, Disney theme park passes, VIP pregame receptions, dinner with the team and limited edition gifts. The package also features an option to purchase airfare. Click here for more information.

Seton Hall is among a power group of schools in the AdvoCare Invitational this season that features five programs that advanced to postseason play in 2015-16, including the BIG EAST champion Pirates, three NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen participants in Gonzaga, Iowa State and Miami, and NIT quarterfinalist Florida.

Among those five 2015-16 postseason teams, the average win total last year was 24.8, the average RPI ranking was 26.4 and the average Kenpom rating was 22.

The matchup with Florida will mark the first contest between these two teams since 1987. The Pirates are 4-2 against members of the SEC during head coach Kevin Willard’s tenure, including victories against Ole Miss and Georgia last season. The Hall is also slated to face SEC foe South Carolina in the Under Armour Reunion at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 12.

The full Pirates non-conference schedule will be released in the coming weeks.

Always a huge game RPI-wise to get into the winner's bracket as will mean the difference in a possible Top 20 opponent (Gonzaga) or a Top 300 team (Quinipiac) in Game 2.

Does anyone know much about Florida's team?

In early bracketology, looks like they are similarly ranked as Seton Hall. Both are in CBS & ESPN's early brackets between a 9 and 12 seed. Looking at their stats from last year, it seems they may have another similarity to us.....they lose their best player but return all other starters.

Although Pat Lyons and the Hall schedulers get no credit for this, playing Florida and possibly Gonzaga certainly boosts our out-of-conference schedule.

Why does Lyons get no credit?

He is the one who got us in the tournament in his first year as AD dealing with ESPN contacts.
