Looking at 2017, these targets look like the remaining ones for maybe 1 spot till we reload in 2018 and 2019.

SF/PF Andre Rafus
PG/SG/SF Nojel Eastern
PG Trevon Duval
C Zach Kent
C Bourama Sidibe

I like all of em for diff. reasons, obviously. Feel like Duval, Kent, Eastern in that order would be what we need the most. Eastern is so compelling though....

Agree with this. That's exactly my order as well. Would be pretty awesome to lock one of these down.

Doesn't the question come down to whether you would prefer the most talented player or whether you pick the player who addresses your most pressing need . Of course the ideal situation is if the player you pick as your top priority is the most talented and fills a pressing need. So my order would be
1. Eastern
2. Kent
3. Duval
4.Rafus
5. Sidibe.

Let me add I'd be happy with our signing any of those 5.

Don't Eastern and Duval fill the same need with Duval being the better talent? I have to think we'd recruit Eastern to play the 1, and it's been mentioned he has the skill set to do that. That said I don't have a problem ranking Eastern 1 when you factor in a potential 1 and done scenario with Duval.

The one and done was a major factor in picking Eastern over Duval as my top priority.

I guess you take the first commit of the bunch which could be Rafus.

With only one slot to work with, would love to wait on Duval and/or Eastern though. As crazy as it seems, I think we have a better shot at Duval than Eastern but who knows.

I'm sure if Rafus commits we take his commit... And I'm sure we will keep recruiting Eastern & Duval and if either commit, I'm sure we will take the commit and I'm sure we will have an open slot for them.

I am sure there are quite a few names we never have heard yet.

Absolutely, unless of course a couple of the guys commit. Then we'll focus on the following year which is going to be an incredibly strong one in the area.

What are Zack Kent's strengths and weaknesses?

Just curious

He's got a bevy of high major offers out, but more importantly, big men take time to develop unless you are pulling in top 50 talent (and even then conditioning and transition to college speed takes time).

I'd rather have options here two years down the line to work on someone like Kent. Even if Carter turns out to be starter material, I'd look for Kent to give good minutes as a Junior or earlier.

There is VERY little info available on Kent. Virtually no video and only a few pictures which show he's got a long way to go before playing a power position in the Big East. he played for the same AAU team as Duval and Boua Sidibe and from the stats I've seen he rarely played behin Sidibe. Sidibe is a big-time prospect and led the Under Armor Association in Rebounds and Blocks.Like I said I've never seen Kent play but I've watched Sidibe and he's a legit High D-1 Center. Right now he has a limited offensive game but he's very long, he's agile for his size and runs the floor very well. he's a natural shot-blocker who would be perfect for us. Don't know if we have any shot because there is little infor out there on his recruiting but if you have a chance for him, you don't turn him down.

I've seen enough of Rafus to form a good opinion but I admit I know nothing of Kent. but what it looks likre to me is he's a kid who was ranked highly early on because of his size and shooting ability but like Rafus has dropped pretty hard because neither has added enough strength or expanded their games enough which is why both have dropped from Top 60 status to present Top 200 status.

In my opinion you definitely take a commitment from Duval, Eastern or Sidibe in a heartbeat but I would take a wait and see aproach with Rafus and Kent.

One other intriguing guy who we offered in the summer was Evan Battey. Like Wabissa Bede, he was a guy who really got a lot of recognition in Spring/Summer and saw his ranking jump. He's oddly built at 6'7" 280 pounds but is a very skilled player who uses his weight to his advantage. He needs to get in better condition to defend 4's at the highest level but he's a strong offensive player who has nice moves in the post, can shoot out to the 3-point line, has solid vision and is an able passer. Most importantly he plays with passion and knows how to use his strength to overpower at times. He's a bit of a tweener because he's too short to defend true 5's and maybe not quick enough to defend good 4's but if he gets in better condition he could be a very good college 4.

We were on his original list of 9 schools in August but haven't heard us linked to him recently. He's gone on official visits the last 3 weekends to Purdue, Colorado and Miami.

Eastern, Cale & Rafus would be a class I would take in a second... And would add a lot of confidence in KW's abilities after his Cheese & EG class to top off his 2014 class... Hopefully 2015 (Myles Carter & Veer) will prove out over time.

But we need bigs. Very soon. And a lot of em.

I'd take Battey over any of these guys. Love this kid, someone is going to kill me for saying this.

In all honesty, what position does he play? PF? C? He's a shooter right? Does he bang downlow? Rebound? Block shots? Play D?

Strengths:
Battey is a unique prospect for the next level due to his size and skill set. He is a big-bodied 4-man with ball skills and the strength to finish in the paint. He can take defenders off the bounce and finish through contact or drop off the assist. The face-up 4-man has a terrific 1st step, excellent ball skills, and his passing prowess demonstrated the savvy he possesses for this game. He can post up on the low block and finish through contact as well.

Weaknesses:
Battey will need to keep his frame in check to utilize his unique combination of size and skill. In addition, developing a consistent face-up jump shot will enhance his ability to use his physical ability to get around defenders and create plays.

Bottom Line:
Battey is one of the more interesting prospects on the west coast for his class. His unique blend of talents will be intriguing to watch over the next few seasons.

So an undersized face up PF who can't shoot consistently with weight issues who can play down low when he wants? And is a scorer but nothing much about his D?

I mean he seems to have as many questions and issues as Rafus.

Apparently someone did since they said why. Why is everyone questioning me? Lol.

What do you mean can I show you?

We need a post prospect in my opinion in this class. we are not getting Sidibe or Battey And he is the only other big we are involved in. Unless Carter has really improved then I would save the ship.

Who do you want?

It seems literally no one can find any video or in depth write ups about this kid. The only thing I know is that he's prob taller than Rafus and just as skinny. I just don't get why he's your 2nd choice.

I count five above who picked Kent over Sidibe, which got me very excited to learn about a still-available 6'10" guy better than Sidibe.

But then there was this:
... from the stats I've seen he rarely played behind Sidibe.

Fishjam, thank you for the analysis. It's good to hear from someone who has seen the game of some of these kids. I'd be overjoyed to get Sidibe's commitment. Getting antsy watching other BE teams pick up commitments at this time of year and we seem to be hearing crickets from the remaining targets.

I'd love to hear our odds on any of the C targets, as well as Duval or Eastern.

Uninformed guesses on probability of a commitment to the Hall for the 2017 class:

SF/PF Andre Rafus 71.2%
PG/SG/SF Nojel Eastern 12.5%
PG Trevon Duval 20.9%
C Zach Kent 31.3%
C Bourama Sidibe 3.8%
SG Myles Cale 100%
Other Target Not Named 10.0%

Exactly. There's like no info or game footage (show us) about his game. Yes just 6'10.

If you want footage then look him up on the net If there is any.

I saw him in person and he needs work but probably our best option. I don't think we are getting Sidibe unless a miracle happens as of now. Before anyone asks Rafus is not a big man to me. We need a big in this class like u stated earlier and this is our best shot right now unless we go Juco or transfer later.

I think our chances with Eastern and Duval are higher than what you posted but everyone else is right on.

There is no footage.

Can you explain his game?

Well Battey is off the board, just chose Colorado. Other than Sidibe who's a long shot, I don't know a thing about Kent other than he was Sidibe's backup for WeR1. If we have faith that Myles Carter will develop into a starter by the time he's a Senior we don't have to get a big in this class but makes it a must to get 1 that can step right in and play quality minutes in the 2018 class behind Carter and Nzei.

Exactly! That is what I expressed in an earlier response. Hopefully Carter has made huge improvements and we don't need a big in this class. Then hit next year hard for bigs.

Kent is not as polished as other big man. He is a little soft and needs to gain weight and muscle. He would get pushed by more physical guys but is mobile in the lane. Has a nice touch and is a good shooter when not in motion. He is an ok prospect and would only take him if Carter has not progressed if not save the ship or use it on Rafus. Too bad we are not involved with Nwora who I would have really liked along with Eastern and Cale....that would have been a very very good class.

I really like Nwora's game but I assume he wasn't interested in us. He is an active SF who can do so many additional things beside shoot the stationary 3. He's adept at coming off ball screens to shoot, athletic enough to attack the rim and can also score in the mid-game range and rebound. Seems like we were involved early but once his game blew up this summer, you stopped hearing about us being associated with him I watched him shoot the lights out at the Addidas Nations event on ESPN and since then UCLA, USC, Utah, Louisville, Maryland, etc have been all over him not to mention Georgia tech. He's one of those amazing scorers that made Jose Alvarado look so good in AAU ball. That NY Rens team had one of the most explosive attacking guards in the country in Hamidou Diallo and 2 of the best scoring wings in Nwora and Jordan Tucker. Tucker and Diallo get most of the notoriety while Nwora was more of a 3rd scorer but he showed he can be a lead dog also.

I personally would be disappointed if we only sign one recruit. Adding a quality big in this class would help balance the classes and provide not only depth but would give you another big with a year of college ready to contribute when Ish and Angel move on . You would have Nzei, Carter and that big on your roster reducing the risk if we struggle in signing bigs for the 2018 class. Getting quality bigs , including finding a legitimate five is something we've struggled with and after last year's success and a true chance to repeat that success this year I would have believed we were in a position to add a big to go along with Cale, something that doesn't look optimistic now. I certainly hope I'm wrong but nothing I've seen seems to indicate we're going to sign any of the bigs that we've been listed as going after.

I am confident SHU will sign at least one more player in the fall.

I really like Rafus's potential by the way.
