Archbishop Stepinac (NY) junior point guard R.J. Davis is gaining interest throughout the Atlantic-10, Big 10 and MAAC with two full years of high school ball under his belt. The Big East joined the fold in the spring when Seton Hall and St. John’s both reached out with an offer.

The 5-foot-11, 150-pounder sat down with Piratecrew to discuss his connection with the Seton Hall staff and detail the rest of his current recruitment.

Davis is in regular contact with the Pirates’ coaches and thinks he’s becoming one of the top guys on their class of 2020 wish list.

“They have recruited me pretty well and I would say my relationship with them is forming,” he told the site. “It’s getting better day by day. Recently they just said good luck and that they hope I have a phenomenal season.”

The 3-star prospect felt his unofficial visit to South Orange on September 1 was a major stepping stone in learning more about the program and how head coach Kevin Willard runs his ship.

“I got to see the campus, meet the players and feel what it was like to be a Pirate for a day,” he said. “I sat and watched their practice as well. It was really all about taking in the environment.”

Davis believes Seton Hall’s culture is what sticks out most to recruits interested in the school.

“It feels like family, the coaching staff and players have such a strong bond,” he said. “They also take the academics seriously and I take pride in that because the ball will stop bouncing one day. Getting a good degree is a major key in life.”

Fordham, George Washington, Illinois, La Salle, Manhattan, Maryland, Massachusetts and Old Dominion round out the rest of his offer sheet. Georgetown, Indiana, Ohio State, Pittsburgh and Virginia are additionally in contact with the youngster, but have yet to put a scholarship on the table.

Davis has no plans to make more visits any time soon, although coaches are making an effort to get him in the arena for games on days where his schedule is open.

“I’ve been talking with Maryland and they want me to come down to College Park on the December. 22 when they play Seton Hall,” he said. “I’ll probably start operating on seeing the college games when that gets closer though. For now, my focus is on the upcoming season.”
