2020 Unemployment Max Benefit by State

So the new flat, weekly Federal unemployment benefit is another DC clueless idea.

My son has been working on and off temp jobs at iheartmedia as well as working part-time at Macy's for the last year. Based on his average wage per week over the last 52 weeks, he barely makes the minimum required for NJ unemployment. So he's eligible at $200/week for $120/week in NJ unemployment. AND he automatically gets the flat $600/week Fed benefit. Now he's getting $720/week, which he was never close to, for sitting on his ass. This is what happens when idiots in DC egged on by a complicit media runs things.

Too funny.

You are saying the main stream media advocated to the fed gov to enact a flat 600 dollar a week freebie to those unemployed?

Of all the things to complain about...

like they should waste the time and resources to make sure people don’t get too much money during an economic crisis.

good for your son. Tell him to to spend it when things open up to help more than he would have otherwise been able to.

It’s stupid to put money in the hands of those who don’t deserve it at the expense of others who deserve more.

THEY created the economic crisis (actually the state governors, to be honest). But politicians created this. This is a 100% man-made recession, fueled by sensationalism and over the top panic.

Depending on his son's situation, I'd tell him to invest it. But that's an individual decision.

Stupid would be wasting the time and resources figuring out who doesn’t need the money at the expense of delaying those who do.

Yeah. Let’s just sit back and watch a million people die for the economy...

Shu09 i feel you are extreme in this, say live onsite work was still a consideration, i bet ya atleast 50 percent of workers who may live in a multigenerational dwelling or have infants would elect to not work so now companies are gonna fire people who dont want to work at risk of health to them and others?

They can work from home if possible. If not, they can use their vacation/sick time if they still want to get paid.

The individual companies should make the decision whether they want to stay open or not.

Again, we're not talking the black plauge here. Most people who get this virus will survive. The vast majority will only experience mild or moderate symptoms that don't require hospitalization. Most of the people sadly dying from it are not in the work force.

Stupid is thinking you (DC/state level politicians) somehow miraculously know what the right thing/amounts are without any thoughtful debate/analysis. ("We just have to do something, LOL!!") All of a sudden they just absolutely know what the right amounts are needed? Delay? DC/state politicians are all about delay, see Pelosi with the CARES ACT and right now with the small business increased PPP amounts.

Get it right and make it fair.

People that make more but are capped by their respective states unemployment laws.
SPK what would you consider a fair meeting in the middle point then? Right now 713 is the gross per week max in NJ that is 17.825 an hour on a 40 hour week....NJ is among the highest in the country

Hard to say but if you are getting the max from NJ, you made $1,188 or more per week and are out a minimum of $475 a week. Would be better to make those people closer to whole than to give a raise (sometimes substantially) to others. Highly unfair.

But what do I know, I'm a miserable racist.

nothing will ever be perfect. Nothing will ever be perfectly fair. They don’t know the “right” amounts (as if there is such a thing)... it was good to get it going ASAP, mistakes and all.

I don’t like what Pelosi is doing either. Not a
time for political wins in my opinion and she is playing politics right now.
