It's not a big surprise that the No. 1 seed in the Big East Tournament is Villanova. After all, the Wildcats are the top seed for the sixth time in the past nine seasons. But if you're expecting Villanova to cruise to a fourth straight conference tournament crown, think again.

Due to a season-ending injury to the No. 10 Wildcats' senior leader Collin Gillespie and an ankle injury to third-leading scorer Justin Moore in Saturday's regular-season finale, Villanova is limping into the postseason. With No. 2 seed Creighton also navigating an indefinite suspension for coach Greg McDermott, this could be a wide open tournament.

One team to watch is No. 3 seed UConn, an old Big East school enjoying a solid first year back in the revamped league. The Huskies have won four straight and six of seven entering the postseason under third-year coach Dan Hurley. With a solid showing in the conference tournament, UConn could improve upon the projected No. 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament that it held this weekend and solidify itself as a serious potential threat in the Big Dance.

You don't have to wait until the field of 68 is announced to fill out your brackets. Play Conference Bracket Challenge presented by Hertz and pick the tournaments for a $10,000 cash prize or start a pool and compete against friends. No purchase necessary, see Rules for details.

UConn sophomore guard James Bouknight has been playing as well as anyone in the country since returning in mid-February from an elbow injury and could cement his rising stardom in what figures to be a wide open Big East Tournament.

It's actually six times in eight years.
