and two top 10 teams to boot. not hearing a lot of guff about Sha on this board lately...

amazing game and thank god they didnt blow it towards the end there. teams identity is tough across the board. great game by all including the bench guys.

Sorry bud, Can you remind all of us how Seton Hall was doing on January 6th year 2 of the Willard era. Today's a big friggin win, but stop with the stupid coach talk. It's year 2. Win big going forward or lose out, it's year friggin 2. January 6 year 2 means nothing. This team is earily similar with their lack of depth except this team's top 5 are all seniors.

Seton Hall played great today, outside of the turnovers. Just an average day in turnovers would have resulted in an easy 15 point win.

This you a few minutes ago?

:)
yes, only the dumbest team could get themselves int he situation they did. and although dawes had a play where he literally just passed it to marquette, its not just him by any means.

i have no idea what your point is. but remember one coach has an elite 8 under his belt. the other had nothing and still does.

Please tell me somebody, anybody asked Sha if he was going to foul with 6.4 seconds left.. Cohen did not, which is shocking and a terrible job. Most important question one could ask for several reasons

Wipe your chin. My point is really simple. There's a laundry list of coaches that looked good year 2 or sooner at a school and barely lasted 5 and there's a bunch of guys who started out like crap who turned out to be very good. The guy you hated looked good in year 2 as well and never got passed the first weekend at SETON HALL, and even if he does it at Maryland, who gives a crap. Doing it at Seton Hall is all that matters. Gonzo beat Donovan, just not at Seton Hall so who cares. Kevin Ollie won a national title right away would you prefer him as our coach. Imagine saying Ollie has a national title and Sha only has an elite 8. It's just a stupid comment. One nice run in the tournament doesn't define a coach. Having a solid program year after year does.

theres a little bit of context that needs to be considered no? you think kevin ollies team had nothing to do with calhouns players? (aka the best coach of all time)

you clearly have something against sha and seems like you almost wish he doesnt succeed. i mean theres no way you can actually try to diminish the accomlishment of sha getting to the elite 8 with the least talented team to ever have done it.

and i think its unanimous that nobody cares about a solid program year after year. they care about tournament runs. it IS what makes the coach. im sorry you have to sit through the last 2 weeks of sha beating ranked teams with an inferior roster. must be painful for you.

So then today's game doesn't matter, the season comes down to the third week of March? Why is everyone so excited.

Actually you can read every post after wins. I'm loving it. If I don't want him to succeed, why would I say 100 times he needs time, regardless of how the rest of the season goes.

because you have to make the tournament and ranked wins is how you do it. sha has proven that he can make a run if he can get in. we just got done 10+ years of a coach who never made a run. so it would be awesome to get there with a coach who has gotten to the second weekend before. pretty simple, not that hard to understand.

i certainly agree that its good to give time. i was pointing out how more than half the board was down his throat not even a month ago seriously questioning his ability. you dont exactly beat two top 10 teams and a ranked team on the road if youre that bad and dont have a hold over the locker room.

I was never one of them. I even questioned a poster with sources Sha's not the right guy. But proving you can win means nothing by one nice run means nothing. Consider what Shaka proved at VCU and what he's done since. March is a crap shoot in so many ways.

considering they got a turnover that iced the game, whats the point of asking it?

final four then made the second weekend 3 out of the next 9 appearances.

Are you serious? Because its Reporting 101. Way better and more informative than “What did this crowd do for your team? Bullshit. Ask the question bc its 100% relevant. If Sha decides not to answer, or beat around it, than fine. But not asking is pure reckless reporting

He's won three tournament games since that Final Four in 2011. One each in 2012, 2013 and 2023. If he took his team to the second weekend in those years, he had to buy tickets to get them in.

He is 1-7 in the NCAAs since he left VCU.

Did not think they had a chance to make the NIT let alone the NCAA. Would be very impressive for Sha to make the tourney in his second year. Quite a bit better than his predecessor.

Bottom line is that Seton is tied for first in the Big East after playing Connecticut and Marquette.

SCHOOLW-LPCT.W-LPCT.
UConn3-1.75013-2.867
St. John's3-1.75011-4.733
Seton Hall3-1.75010-5.667
Villanova3-1.75010-5.667
Creighton2-2.50011-4.733
Marquette2-2.50011-4.733
Providence2-2.50011-4.733
Xavier1-2.3337-7.500
Butler1-3.25010-5.667
Georgetown1-3.2508-7.533
DePaul0-3.0003-11.214

And, though we are listed in first, I think it actually should be you guys based on the head to head, right?

You might want to hang onto that Holloway guy.

Here's what I would have done. Do not foul initially, but if Marquette passed the ball backwards, which they did (resulted in a turnover), then I would have unquestionably fouled before a shot could be launched as the play set up by Smart would have taken at least 2 seconds off the shot clock before the attempt.

You just have to be careful not to foul a three point attempt.

However, what I did not like was after the turnover and Sha putting five wings on the court he set up Dawes to run into the backcourt. I guess as a decoy taking two defenders with him because you absolutely never throw a backwards pass in that situation. But then the result was you inbound the ball to your worst foul shooter (by average) on the court. Just not smart. Get the ball in the hands of Richmond or Davis since you took Dawes and two Marquette players away from the ball.

That's a different question and you absolutely do not foul in that situation.

If an off balance throw from over 50 feet at the buzzer goes in then you accept that you made the right call and play OT.

Foul him and you give Marquette a chance to tie the game with a foul shot and offensive putback on the missing of the second foul shot.

That’a fine, but the question should still be asked postgame. Its totally relevant, and I think Sha answers it. I do recall him fouling a couple a times in a similar spot when at St Pete’s.

Curiosity and I'm sure someone on the staff has some type of statistic, but what are the percentages of making 50 foot shot 15%? What are the odds of making the first free and converting a put back on a missed 2nd free throw? FYI in general I'm not an analytics guy but here I think it's relevant. But also goes into it, who has the ball, who are your bigs blocking out, who are their bigs. Lot of factors.

me too. i saw no chance to 11 wins with these players. people will say it's convienient but i think the difference is the coach has them buying in as a unit. yesterday was a full team effort. few comments here mentioning this looked like the st. peter's team that advanced in the tournament

Bad calls go both ways in general, but the most egregious was the lack of an intentional on Coleman’s potential breakaway. He had a clear path and was grabbed.
That couldn’t have been more intentional. BTW, who’s the guy in screaming distance from the announcers? I love that guy. Screamed the whole game at the refs LOL

Did anyone ask Sha in postgame what the refs explanation was for NOT calling intentional ? Should have been 2 and the ball.

That guy sits right behind me, though I had different seats this game. He is loud, all game. His wife is very quiet.

I rewatched the game and almost every word comes through.

There are different types of 50 foot shots. In that case Kolek was in a mad dash up court and had to throw the ball up awkwardly from a left angle. It's not like he just had to launch a long shot in rhythm.

There's no way he hits that type of shot 15% of the time. I would venture one out of 25 would be asking a lot.

He chose not to foul up 3 in the St. Peter's-Purdue game. Spanarkel on the broadcast said, "they don't like to foul." I would like to know if Holloway's philosophy in that situation is the same or if it has changed.

There is no such thing as an intentional foul or a clear path foul in NCAA basketball these days. Fouls are only personal, technical, flagrant (1 or 2), or dead ball contact technical.
