turn overs, missed foul shots and easy buckets. Yes we were missing foul shots, easy buckets, offensive rebounding and intensity but to me the turn overs did us in. Like I said in a previous post" you can make turn overs against lesser teams but against better teams a loss is right around the corner". We still gave all that was there but wasn't enough.
Disappointed..absolutely but every team has those nights as long as it doesn't become the norm. This team will bounce back, not like teams of the past and the dance door is still ajar.

We only had 14 turnovers, same as Butler. Only 5 in the 2nd half. None, I believe, in the last 10 minutes. Butler just executed its offense. We couldn't get enough stops.

The loss was because of our defense. A strength most all year long it let the team down yesterday.

Gave up way too much late penetration in the shot clock.

This game was the simplest all year to analyze. It wasn't about Xs and Os. It was all bout butler being the tougher team and dominating the paint on both ends. Gotta learn from it and move on.

I would say the more desperate team. They caught us at the right time. A little tired and playing with less energy than we have been playing with.

IMO both teams are near equal in ability and would split 10 games over the course of a season.

Desperate doesn't do it for me Dan. How many times have we been the more desperate team and come away without the W? To me it doesn't matter what the reasons were if there were any at all, Butler was tougher last night and dominated the paint getting easy shot after easy shot. That's why they won.

Desperate doesn't win without talent. But it's often the difference when two team are nearly equal in that category.

Butler deserved the W. They outplayed us for the majority of the game. But they also caught us at a perfect time.

Dan I respectfully disagree. Our 2006 team was more talented and desperate than RU in the BET, we lost. Our 2012 team was more talented and desperate than DePaul and RU, we lost. Last night was all about Butler being the tougher team inside.

Fair point. But the more desperate team doesn't always win. It's just one of many factors.

We just disagree on the importance re this particular game.

Well, now to keep ourselves in position... We need to win @GTown and win @Stj that will get us to 19-7 (9-5) with 2 home games and 2 road games left... I still think we need to get to 21-9 (11-7) to feel good about the NCAA... And, fwiw, I don't see us winning @Butler.

We didn't play like we were desperate in those games you mention. Only the fans were desperate those nights.

Fwiw, did you have us winning at Creighton?

10 Big East wins and Seton Hall makes the dance. St John's, DePaul and ??

They all came within the first 30 minutes when we were constantly down 5-6 points and even squandered IW's shooting.

The team played a clunker. The defensive effort was passive and Butler was desperate.

It was a tough game. Butler made the shots they needed to. We missed some open shots and needed free throws but played well overall. This was certainly one of those that you say "We should have won" but it came down to making shots when you need them. A prime example was later in the game when SHU cut it to a 2 point Butler lead but they came down and hit a 3. Took the crowd out of it a bit.

Butler must've answered a momentum play from us with a bucket nearly every time. Especially Dunham in that second half.

We fought hard to get up 43-40 and then he zipped up a quick personal 5-0 run for them and put us down again immediately. Was that kind of game. Could not string together enough stops enough times. Had a few good stands on consecutive possessions maybe once or twice. Not nearly enough and certainly not our usual.

That'd make for a weak OOC schedule with really only one "good" win (WSU) and only one "good" BE win in Prov.

IDK that gets us in, without knowing the Bubble situation.
