It is with a sense of deep sadness that I want to pass on to all my friends in the Seton Hall University community, the death of a very distinguished alumni - Mr. Donald Horn. Don was a 1951 graduate of Seton Hall, a class that also included my Dad - Joe Silvestri. Don and my Dad continued their strong friendship that they began during their years as fellow football players at West Orange High School - A friendship that they both held for more than 70 years until my Dad's own passing last year. Don took over running the very highly successful Pals Cabin Restaurant that his own Dad had established during the 1930s and help make it even more successful. Don was actually my boss during my own years during the 1970s at the University. I started there in the kitchen pantry, and then I became a waiter in the restaurant. Working there was profitable enough for me, that I was able to leave school without having any debt hanging over my head. The Horn family also owned the Mayfair Farms catering facility. Many Seton Hall University functions have been held there over the years. Also for many years, the Horn family sponsored a women's Holiday tournament at Walsh Gym - The Pals Cabin/Mayfair Farms Classic. Don possessed Seton Hall Mens Basketaball season tickets for many years as well as being, I believe, a regular large contributor to the school's alumni fund.

Don on more than one occasion told me personally he loved our school so very much - He was a true gentleman, an outstanding credit to the University and will be missed very much by many!

Was your dad a charter member of Fairmount CC?

Had the pleasure the know the Horn family. A wonderful family. My condolences

I went to high school with his children and was friends with his daughter before she passed way too early. Very nice family. God bless.

Rest Well.

Pal's Cabin was always great. I used to make a point of going there whenever I was in town. A true landmark.

The best French Onion Soup!

The Horns are a wonderful family. My family and I ate at Pals many times. Very welcoming family too. May he rest in peace. Nice post Pesto!

Wow. RIP. Grandfather of someone I went to middle and high school with. Very very sad.

RIP. I really was bummed out when they decided to close down Pal's Cabin. That place was an institution in West Orange.
