So personally in CBB i think the best way to breakdown the season is in three acts. Out of conference play, conference play and then postseason. So as we conclude what I would deem Act 1, I think its a good time to reflect on what has occurred and where we stand going forward.
Ive been debating for the last hour or so what should be the first talking point and it just has to be Kevin Willard and the coaches. And on Saturday the effort, game plan and in game X&0's made Mark Turgeon & Co look like they were playing checkers while KW & Co were playing chess. The monumental growth this team has experienced in the matter of 12 games is staggering. Every player has a chance to succeed on any given night with these coaches and make impact to help their team win the game. This correlates back to locker room the players sitting on the bench all the know hard work is rewarded and have bought in, this team has purpose. Clearly, Artie's bold statement earlier in the year about an uptick in recruiting due to the additions of 40 and Skinn plus Grant coming into his own, is coming to fruition however I also see a major upgrade in our in game coaching, player preparation and overall strategy. And going into St Johns battle our major advantage is our coaching is simply just better than what they have.
Secondly, DEPTH we have four guys averaged basically 10 ppg that on any night can be the secondary weapon to MP to be the difference maker (and its really 5 guys I didnt include TT bc he doesnt deserve to be mention with this group yet). Mcknight, Cale, Sandro and Nzei have been instrumental in filling the void of who will be the second scorer for this team. Mike is shooting 69% from the field and is far more then your average garbage man. Mcknight, the steady eddy, defensive dog and no disrespect to Derick Gordon however is just far superior player on both ends of the floor. Then Sandro and Myles Cale, the program is clearly in good hands both players ceiling are extremely high as we all can see. They both continue to make massive strides and will be the next headlining stars for the program when Powell decides to leave.
Myles FREAKING Powell, he is an absolute walking bucket. And this 12 game stretch is the most dominate anyone has been in a Seton Hall uniform since IW and personally your not going to convince me its even close to anything else we have seen. His stats do not even tell the full tale bc has had 3 game were hes basically played 25 minutes against Wagner, NH and SHU where he was given rest. He is a leader of men and effort is through the roof night in and night out. Its time for college basketball to acknowledge he is a top 10 player in the country right now.
Lastly, when I used to get very frustrated about wanting Seton hall to take the next step this is simply all I wanted. The recruiting is infinitely better, we are slowing becoming a brand and Willard is putting everyone on the North east on notice. The program is in amazing hands and only will get better in the coming years and its a pleasure to watch and enjoy. As we move onto act II we should continue to grow and give the big east fits.
BTW WE HAVE A BETTER CHANCE AT WINNING THE BIG EAST THIS YEAR THEN PAST TWO YEARS. And i believe we will surpass our win total in each of the past two years. Im ready to dance again.
