Happy New Year!
I hope that you all had a Merry Christmas last month, and I'm excited to wish a Happy New Year to you and all your loved ones! 2016 is shaping up to be another fun and exciting year in Seton Hall Athletics!
Basketball teams off to great start
Our men's and women's basketball teams are off to tremendous starts, combining for a 25-5 record that ranks near the top of the nation!
Our men's basketball team has won seven of its last eight games and have wins this season over Georgia, Ole Miss and Wichita State. All the rankings (RPI, Kenpom, etc.) have indicated our team is top-50 in the country. They are now in the rigors of BIG EAST play, where night in and night out, they will face some of the best teams in the nation. Our student-athletes need your support at our home games; you provide us a home court advantage that can help us win some of these important games. We hope to see you at The Rock, beginning this Saturday! Click here for tickets.
Our women's basketball team set a new school record by winning 13 of its first 14 games, earning a national ranking from the two major polls and earning an RPI rating that has been in the top 15 for most of the season. The team has quality wins over Rutgers, Princeton, Saint Joseph's and NC State. They too are now in the midst of the tough stretch of BIG EAST games with all the teams jockeying for one of the top spots in the league. When it's loud, Walsh Gymnasium can be one of the most intimidating places to play in the conference, so please come out to support your Pirates as they chase another championship! Click here for tickets.
Golf Lab Complete
Last month, we unveiled our new Indoor Golf Lab, a new 2,760-square foot space within the Richie Regan Athletic Center that will allow our men's & women's golf teams to practice year-round without the worries of inclement weather. The lab simulates the full golf experience with multiple chipping areas, including fringe/chipping areas with different rough lengths, uphill chipping area, a putting lab and a simulated sand trap.
I'd like to thank the Torcivia Family Foundation for providing the lead gift on this project, and I'd like to thank James and Kathleen Leber for their donation that contributed to the installation of the hitting stalls and the Trackman portable simulator. As I've always said, we as a department are invested in the student-athlete experience, and the Torcivia Family Foundation and the Leber Family have helped contribute to giving our golfers the best possible experience and the opportunity to get better and compete for championships.

Construction on new lobby and Hall of Fame underway
The Golf Lab is the latest completed project, but we are well underway on our next renovation - the Richie Regan Athletic Center lobby, where we are installing our new Seton Hall University Athletics Hall of Fame, giving the entrance to the building a new look with Seton Hall branding and renovating our administrative offices. We are excited to transform the space into a new and exciting area that will celebrate all the incredible achievements we have had as an athletics department as well as celebrate the members of our Hall of Fame, which is at over 220 individuals and counting.
Once this transformation is complete, you will walk into the Richie Regan Athletic Center amazed at the changes! Stay tuned for updates on this exciting project.
First Pitch Dinner
We're excited for our annual First Pitch Dinner, a fun event that kicks off the baseball season with our team, alumni and supporters. This year we are honored to have Dana Brown as the event's guest speaker. Dana is a Seton Hall graduate, having played baseball for the Pirates from 1986-89 and is the program's all-time leader in runs scored and walks. He was inducted into our Hall of Fame in 2008.
Today, Dana is the Special Assistant to the General Manager for the Toronto Blue Jays, and we're thrilled he will be sharing his experiences and wisdom with everyone at the First Pitch Dinner.
The event takes place Thursday, Jan. 28 at Maplewood Country Club with cocktails beginning at 6 p.m. Click here for the official invitation and RSVP information.
Pirate Varsity Club Reunion Coming Soon!
Our annual Pirate Varsity Club reunion is upon us; the event is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 6 at 8 p.m., just before our men's basketball team plays Georgetown at Prudential Center.
The event is always a great opportunity for former student-athletes to re-connect with their teammates and with the University while cheering for the Pirates in what is sure to be an important BIG EAST game!
