NEWARK, N.J. — In its first game of 2025, the Seton Hall men's basketball team rang in the new year with an 85-80 comeback overtime win over DePaul for its first BIG EAST win of the season.
Isaiah Coleman and Dylan Addae-Wusu led the Pirates' (6-9, 1-3 BIG EAST) comeback with 24 points each (6-of-12 and 7-of-12 from the field, respectively.) The Blue Demons (9-7, 0-5 BIG EAST) shot 37.1% from three (13-of-35), while the Pirates had a season-best night from deep (11-of-22.)
How It Happened
In its return to The Rock for 2025, Seton Hall found themselves down 6-0 in the opening minutes of this BIG EAST clash. The Pirates responded, though, ringing in the new year with a pair of foul shots from Isaiah Coleman for their first points of the game. Chaunce Jenkins, however, earned The Hall's first field goal of 2025 on a jumper to reduce it an 8-4 Blue Demons lead with 16:05 remaining in the half. The Blue Demons, however, continued their hot start and went on a 10-5 run to increase the Pirates deficit to 9, 18-9, with 12:17 remaining.
In search of a response down 7, 20-13, a pair of Pirates substitutions with 10:52 helped turn the tide. Over the next two-and-a-half minutes, Dylan Addae-Wusu and Jahseem Felton led The Hall back into the game with superb play on both ends. Addae Wusu's five points and Felton's four helped the Pirates go on a 9-4 run, drawing them within 2, 24-22, with 8 minutes remaining before the halftime break. In response to the Pirates' scoring burst, DePaul closed the half on a 17-4 run, sending the Pirates to the half 41-26.
Out of the break, DePaul expanded their lead to 19, 45-26, inside the first 30 seconds of play. In the face of a near 20-point deficit, the Pirates turned to the bench for their answer. While normally starting, forward Prince Aligbe started the second half and took full advantage of the opportunity. The Minneapolis native added eight points in a small ball lineup, marshaling a 23-5 scoring torrent that was capped off by a Jahseem Felton three, reducing The Hall's deficit to only one, 50-49, with 10:18 left in the game.
In what was becoming a game of runs, DePaul responded to Seton Hall's comeback with a run of their own. The Blue Demons stifled the Pirates on the offensive end, allowing the visitors to go on a 15-5 run and expand their lead back to 11, 65-54, as the second half entered its closing stages with 4:12 remaining. With both teams searching for their first BIG EAST wins of the season, the Pirates turned up their defensive press and pushed for the win. Scotty Middleton started the comeback with four points in the closing minutes, but Isaiah Coleman took over in the final two minutes of the half. He contributed two buckets before the clock ticked under a minute remaining with The Hall down 2, 67-65.
In the final moments of the half, the game was up in the air. The Blue Demons' Jacob Meyer went 1-for-2 from the line with 15 seconds remaining, pushing DePaul's lead to 3, 68-65, and giving the Pirates a chance to send the game to overtime. After a timeout, the ball was inbounded to Dylan Addae-Wusu who took the ball up the court. Eventually, the ball found its way into Isaiah Coleman's hands, and he buried a three from just off the top-of-the-arc to tie the game, 68-68, with 5 seconds remaining in the game. The Hall's defense denied DePaul a strong final shot, sending the two teams to overtime.
After the overtime tip, both sides traded threes before the Pirates shut the door on the Blue Demons. The men who shut that door were The Hall's guard duo of Dylan Addae-Wusu and Isaiah Coleman. Addae-Wusu added eight points in overtime, including a three that enlivened the Pirate faithful with 2:52 remaining, and ended the game with a season-high 24 points. Coleman, meanwhile, added another seven in the overtime period, also giving him 24 points on the night and helping Pirates to victory over the DePaul, 85-80.
