Georgetown Blanks High Point in NCAA Second Round
The eighth-seeded Georgetown University men's soccer team shut out the High Point University Panthers 2-0 on Sunday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at the Matthews Sportsplex in Matthews, North Carolina. Georgetown dominated the possession in the first half as senior Paul Rothrock had the first good look at the net. The Blue & Gray got on the board in the 21st minute as sophomore Will Sands crossed a ball to Rothrock on the right side. He passed to freshman Chris Hegardt who went to the back post and found the head of Zach Riviere. The junior headed it into the back of the net making it 1-0. It didn't take long for Georgetown to add another in the second period as the duo of Riviere and Hegardt was at it again. Riviere came down the field unmarked and sent a ball into the box to Hegardt. The freshman made a move battling through the defense and shot it through two Panthers on the line to make it 2-0 in the 49th minute. Georgetown outshot High Point 13-9 with seven on goal to the Panthers' two.
