It’s no secret that SH is playing poorly, has demonstrated a lack of the fundamental skills needed to be successful and , its head coach has made an inordinate number of highly questionable coaching decisions . My focus now is what solutions are available to fix the myriad problems this team has or are we looking at a situation where only themost radical decision can improve the situation.

What if we reversed course and just really played freshman or sophs that didn’t get much run as fresh

We are known as a program where you can get exposure as a fresh..might attract a slightly higher quality of talented freshman (for not quite as much $$) or transfer soph and we take our chances

Than maybe we can keep a few of them as I think eventually kids will value some level of PT, development and familiarity if price is close..and we can retain some and just play the new crop of fresh with the 1-2 holdovers

It's still only December 8th. Some ideas:

1. IDK how the roster was put together and players were evaluated then allocated funds. Or what other players we passed up or what the whole approach was to configuring the roster. Clearly this was a poor job and needs a lot of tough conversations and change immediately so we don't repeat. It's year-to-year. Sha may be in over his head. This is the first offseason without any guardrails. Player Acquisition isn't the same as coaching.

2. On the current team, there are a lot of freshmen/sophomores with some talent. They need to be the focal point. Try to develop them and then retain them. We may develop them for someone else, but at least if young players get better there will be some hope and give Sha something positive.

The short answer is patience. Time will tell how this plays out. The coach just wants to win games. He is going to play the guys that he feels will give the best chance. He has the final word as he should. He is not going anywhere. He is a Seton Hall guy who had a middle school almost go to the Final 4. He had last year's team win the NIT. His credit is still at a very high level. My opinion in year three is he can coach or teach defense with the right players. He has a passion for that aspect of basketball. His offense lacks structure, and he recruits players that fit the mold. It's hard to believe a great PG that he was, cannot find an adequate PG someplace to run a stable offensive set. The NIL problem is huge for roster construction, but the coaching staff have to do their homework selecting any player moving forward. So, let's just improve, play the young guys who show promise and win some of these conference games. Winning two BigEast Tournament games this year may be the high-water mark.

I have thought for a while now that SH go outside and hire a profession sports consulting group to do a top to bottom review of our athletic program. Using an outside firm allows an unbiased analysis. The Yankees did this and so have college programs. It’s an option that should not be dismissed out of hand.

We need the NIL $$$$ budget to sign KR and DD and a Center to replace Bediako and shooting guard to replace Dawes. If we can't generate those funds I'm afraid we're doomed to be in the bottom of the BE.The strategy of having 10 mediocre players in the rotation (ala St Peters) obviously does not work.

play coleman, jenkins, and the young guys. whats the worst that can happen, we lose?

the season is a write off. we've been in write off seasons before. tell anyone not listed above to walk. recruit players that aren't damaged goods, but maybe worse overall talent. save the money for every 4 years. idk. seems like getting good players here is sustainable for exactly one season (as we saw with dre and kadary)

We had Kadary and Dre for two NIL seasons

Gotta play for the future and hope we can get some chemistry. Felt is a nice guy, but that experiment has failed horribly and he’s been phased out. We need a new AD and a GM/Director of BBall operations who can actually function in this environment. Time for new blood if we want to ever be relevant again.

I don’t think they had to sit out..everyone applied for waivers and got them and now there is no rule
I think you are right but they would have had to apply for waivers. The sit out rule was still in effect. I think the ruling came down right before the start of last season, too late for guys like Kadary and Dre. Guys who transferred and would have had to sit out were rewarded.

Also..I’m not saying and never have said Sha doesn’t have serious hardships with running SHU basketball but it seems to me the same people who wanted KW out (which maybe was right) want excuses for Sha to serve an agenda

Also, it can be a super hard job (which it always has been) and he can not be up to it..those aren’t the same issue

The school HAD to hire him and it was the only move…but I said it at the time..I’m not insider but i have 2 good inside college basketball people and 2 NBA people..all 4 agreed sha was the hire but all told me he wasn’t the guy..so to me ive always been skeptical..but I hope we name a court after the guy and im wrong

The key to solving problems in my experience is that you have to have the right person to head that effort and right now I can’t think of anyone at SH with the skill, experience and authority to identify the issues athletics , particularly our basketball program face. Change is obviously needed yet I don’t see it coming.

For what reasons did these 4 feel this way?

I don’t think we’ll find someone who will be more driven and passionate for The Hall than Shaheen. Now the coaching philosophy and player acquisition remain to be seen. He took over a program with 6/7 NCAAT seasons and we’re going backwards to such an extent we’re losing to Fordham, Hofstra, and Monmouth in the same year; not all NIL.

going backwards? do trends exist anymore in this landscape. seems like teams can launch backwards , or forwards in a blip.

pedigree, nba pipeline, winning are all trumped by $$$

Yes. For a Big East team to lose the games we’ve lost this year. They don’t have more money than us. And we paid them for the pleasure!

its just a team of really bad players. the full sale change of damaged goods backfired. it'll be an issue if they are here next year (or similar strategy)

Consensus was his demeanor (mostly at practice) would never work with teams now..he is relentless..(Hurley seems to do it but they thought the rub on him would not work)

Also his extreme slow tempo is not appealing for top kids who want/like to get up and down

As it was put to me..sha is a hit and super star with parents but a dud with most kids

They thought the player he needs to succeed and buy in is so limited it’s not possible to sustain

Also not a huge fan of his Xs and Os but the scout that is a family friend says that about most all college coaches to be honest

give him time to figure out why the 4 people felt that way
Get lost..I posted it the same stuff several times on this board and the trove before I was run off..

Maybe I’m wrong but I’ve said the same thing every time

YOU told us we screwed up hiring him and Iowa was going to fire McCaffrey to hire him away..that was a good one

Maybe next year Sha will give some of his nearly $3M salary for a player? LOL
He is an SHU grad, he can contribute to our hoops NIL, right? He has much more disposable income than I do, that's for sure!
I love Sha and have repeatedly stated, "In Sha We Trust".....but this team is not coming together....

Currently he cannot as schools are not supposed to be associated with NIL (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).

That is reportedly changing in the near future but we'll see what that actually means.

NIL changes this year (I think next summer) to unlock schools and anyone contributing where it was previously barred. Also a $20M cap per year.

$20m cap is 1) crazy high and 2) likely unenforceable at this point.

A d-1 assistant? Who has recruited against him..Yes
A kid he recruited for over a year?
And the NBA guys..I asked..guy is a local scout for lakers..he watches everyone..and talks to everyone

But you’re probably right…

I believe that is to cover all sports (including football) and is one of the terms of ongoing litigation.

This is money coming directly from revenue -- media rights et al. NIL collectives are not part of that cap.
