Junior guard Tyus Battle, a consensus five-star recruit from Gill St. Bernard’s in Gladstone, N.J., de-committed from Michigan on Friday and took an official visit to Syracuse.

Saying that Battle is bailing has too much of a negative connotation. Choosing a college is a critical decision for any teenager, including student-athletes. What's important is that Battle picks the school he feels is right for him. Nothing else matters. People change their minds on a variety of things all through life. Why should a 17-year-old be looked down upon for changing his?

High School recruiting has gotten out of hand. It has become just as dirty as college recruiting.

The HS/AAU/college hoops scene is a cess pool. Lets empower kids to go directly to the pros and make all freshmen sit out the first year. this will reduce cheating and will enhance academic learning. It is not a coincident that 80% of McD's attend about 12 schools.

The best kids have always gone to the power schools of the era. B UT aau is not only a cesspool but it reached the bad brand of hoops that leads to so many euros getting drafted.

He's just a junior in HS and he has already reneged on a college commitment and also has left his HS to play elsewhere.

Seems like the start of a very long and diverse journey. How long was he committed to Michigan? To Gill St Bernard? To who knows next?

The underbelly of HS and college recruiting always filthy is reaching news lows.

Yup. I know of one player that has at one time or another been committed to St. John's, Dayton, iowa State, and Kansas State.

I know of another player that has at one time or another been committed to DePaul, Kansas, and Fresno State.

Oh wait, they're on Seton Hall now, that's different, they're just trying to better themselves or do what's in their best interest, LOL.

You conveniently forgot to mention your friend Gordon.

Nothing to wait on. No one ever said our players are any different than others.

The system is corrupt. Players, those that hang on to them for monetary profit and advisers take advantage of every conceivable rule. And many coaches are not innocents either.

Disagree with this. In general high school level kids with college ability get better coaching in AAU than High School. This is again in general, and asking about u16 and u17. The American style has greatly changed to the detriment of post players.

The saddest thing of all is that it's only going to get more corrupt as the revenues from TV and other revenue streams increase .When you couple the" money grab" by the schools, the coaches and the players coupled with a lack of meaningful sanctions for those who are caught the system will never change.

My original post had nothing to do with Seton Hall or their players but rather about the corrupt nature of the system in general with widespread recruiting abuses on every level. You also wonder why it takes some players 5-6 years to graduate High School when they are on the road virtually every weekend playing AAU ball and jumping from High School to High School on a regular basis. How much time is left for schooling or is this a consideration at all?

Which makes it harder and harder to be a fan of college basketball any longer. It's all basically one big hypocritical lie.

Not much different from any other sport or enterprise, worldwide or national.

Been like that throughout history.

It has always been hypocritical. The ncaa has always been a sham. Many get rich on the backs of these kids, and getting an education, while terrific if really pursued, rarely equates to becoming a multimillionaire coach. And sports at this level have always had nothing to do with a college's mission to educate. And the pursuit of money usually corrupts some of the people involved.

But I love it and will be there.

The kids take plenty advantage of the system as well, all enabled by us fans.

Though I am down to just baseball (and I haven't seen a single pitch yet this year), I am okay with pro sports being just about the money. At least no one is pretending that it's not. College sports, different story. After 45 years of following college hoops, I am getting close to giving it up. It would be interesting to live a life without watching sports. More time for other stuff.
