UC Berkeley scholar apologizes for wrongly claiming to be Native American her ‘whole life’

A California professor who claimed she was Native American for her entire life has revealed she is white, apologizing for breaking the trust of the Native communities she lived alongside.

I'd cut her some slack based on that article, i.e. she relied on family stories.

It was not until I was 60+ years that I discovered my maternal grandfather was Polish.

He died when my mother was 12.

Growing up we were always told my maternal grandparents were German. My grandmother was clearly German and we knew the town she lived in, etc. The grandfather I never knew had migrated from Poland through Germany to the USA where he met my grandmother. We were always told and assumed he was German.
