Anyone got $10M laying around?

A few years ago I ran into John Kasich, former Ohio Gov. I like him and think he’d make a great President. Please no debate it’s just my opinion and it’s key to the story.

I said Gov you have to run for President again. Without missing a beat he asked me “do you have a billion dollars”. Morale of the story we need some real big bucks.

As I read this, oftentimes with Endowments, you are restricted with how much of the "corpus" or original gift can be spent in any given year, ranging from Zero (in some cases only investment earnings are available to be used) to....I would guess the total value. Just saying that this isn't $10 million they can use now or next year, certainly not in its entirety; doesn't detract from this being a nice "gift"...lol...but I think this is being done to generate others doing similarly (in lesser amounts of course) as is stated in the announcement.

So Kevin....don't go spending all $10 million next year!

assuming that $10 million is invested and yields a rate of return of 10% that’s $1 million a year if the gift limits only the investment income to be used for the basketball program but it’s $1 million every year because principal can’t be invaded.Of course the instrument you would use has to be purudently invested to preserve capital and produce the 10%
return.

He has a soft schedule remaining possiblyn3 ranks teams in big ten play...will he get a seed line he desires?

If any of us hit the Powerball for $300 million, would you hand over $10 million tommow for NIL with no strings attached? I know I wouldn’t…just being honest.
I would immediately give them $3M for the next season, and see how things played out.

Whatever these kids are getting this year, it is the worst possible ROI imaginable. If we had a few more of these, the funding would stop.

Yeah, we’re finished.
All we need to stay in the top half of the BE. That should be attainable. Then take it from there. We need to immediately change our approach to outreach, NIL fundraising, as well as player scouting, acquisition, and retainment. Not so easy to do a total reboot, but we better. What we’re currently doing is a disaster.

He’s got a good team. #19 in the NET at 16-5, 6-4. They’re 3-4 Q1 without a bad loss. They had a big week with the road wins. They played a woeful BS non-con with SOS at #364 (LMAO) and best win being #61 Villanova. Queen and Reese upfront reminds me a little of what he we had with Mamu and Gill/Ike.

wait i thought maryland had pennies
Ask them how they feel about dealing with Ohio St, Michigan, Indiana Oregon and UCLA

Boomer has said many times how MD doesn’t have a chance in B10 NIL landscape

And I referenced in another thread Rutgers has a thread on their board blaming their disaster of a season on poor nil

All relative

So, there is part of me that would be tempted to with how important an interest of this has been for me since I was a kid idolizing this alumnus from my Mom's high school with the last name Morton. Strings or no strings.

Then I would think about all the good I could do with that $10 million, and how many causes far more important need that type of assistance. And how these kids are already getting enormous benefits and can now earn "legitimate" NIL.

And that would compel me to do something better with the $10 million.

Just my personal view.

I have an accounting question. Are NIL donations tax deductible? If not, is this a way to get around it?
I don't believe they are for the average fan.

Now, if a business funds NIL, or someone who owns a business funds NIL through the business because kids are promoting their product, the answer may be different. In other words, if I own a bunch of car dealerships in Alabama and want to donate to keep Jalen Milroe in school, the answer might be different if he is using his social media etc to promote said dealerships.

If I cleared $300m after taxes, I legitimately and absolutely would commit $30m.

$5m up front and the remaining $25m would be parked in an interest earning vehicle. They could use the interest each year.

One would think that would be enough to get them competitive, they can put in a little work to find the rest they need.

Gut feeling you're the guy who will win the lottery, just when the jackpot is 30 million not 300 million

No, I'd buy my seat on the Board of Regents.

I think we need a weekly PirateCrew PowerBall pool, everyone kicks in $2.

On the NIL, I believe it is tax-deductible. I know Mike Walsh got registered as a charitable org.
