And it's not like gun sales have been sluggish the past 5-10 years. Concerns that the police can't protect you as they once could; consequences of isolating people during COVID; degradation of our major cities - as crime has risen dramatically in urban centers.

Heard last night that five times as many school age children in Chicago died from gun violence as they did from COVID in 2020 (15 vs 3). Where is the real threat to our children?

I think you hit the nail on the head. In a time of uncertainty, increased government power, increased demonization of police, glorification of criminals and all the nonsense of the last year related to the virus, I can see why people would purchase firearms for their own protection.

Big cities historically run by Dems have and likely will continue to see large increases in crimes of all types.The morons in the squad say we don’t need police but they travel with security can you say hypocrisy or would the woke crowd label you as racist and ban you from social media for daring to criticize women of color.

I had a friend who years ago owned a 45 foot boat. He would make trips from Boca Raton to Bimini, requiring he pass through open water outside the US. He had a small arsenal which included among other things, an Uzi and an AR-15, fully automatic.

I asked him if he kept the weapons' loaded when he cruised.

He replied to the effect, "Hell yeah. You can't call 911 when you are out at sea".

With regard to seamanship, he took the time to get his 60 ton license so that he was trained to make the voyage safely. With regard to weapons, he was well schooled in their use and maintenance. He applied for and had licenses for the automatic weapons.

Sadly, he has passed on. I can't help but think "You can't call 911" may soon apply on shore.

Most liberals including my former me ignore reality-perhaps because they are glass half full people like me. Most liberal policies sound nice and often are “nice” things to do. But they rarely help people to the extent that is required. Give a fish or teach them to fish, type of thing. (BTW, not sure I can say most liberal policies anymore because shit now it’s republicans fighting for things like free speech!!)

I hear you....But I think there’s a distinction among pols on all topics. Look at the squad when Nancy knocks them or vice versa....but the political seesaw on religion and speech are interesting. Now, Republican Party include a lot more libertarians, Dem Party includes more socialists.
