“Here in DC it’s like, so weird. It’s like everybody is like, a spy. Like, it’s so bizarre,” she said.

‘It’s like – you could go out to get a coffee and the person that’s, like, sitting at a table in the corner of the restaurant is like, you know, like,” she said, as she made typing motions.

“Then they go and, like, they text all of their friends that they saw so-and-so at this cafe and it’s like, triangulation,” she continued. “And it’s super weird.” She also bemoaned that it’s harder to blend in in DC than in New York.

“New York is really interesting because there’s a lot of anonymity out in public,” she said.

Where is this quoted from? I have heard her speak on a number of occasions and she is not a user of "like" every other word.
#2 What is really the obsession with AOC from Republicans? I don't get it. If you want to rail on a stupid Congressman why not mention Steve King? I am sure there are a ton of stupid Congressman from both sides. I just don't understand this.

She has had some "odd" quotes since getting to DC, but I usually do not pay a lot of attention, so cannot comment on using the word like a lot or not.

I agree too much obsession with AOC, but wouldn't say only from Republicans. I see a lot from Dems about her to, and the media is really what seems to be obsessed, not only our local NYC media, but the national media seems to be all over her, both the liberal and conservative channels.

It seems similar to Trump when he came on political scene, they cover anything she says whether important or not. Unfortunately, that is what "news/journalism" has become.

It's from her Instagram feed. As you would expect, it's not a formal interview. She doesn't have answers planned out ahead of time like other politicians, she just talks and responds to questions in the feed.

I'd love to see how other politicians would handle the format of giving open/honest answers on the spot.

I don't even particularly like AOC: I've seen her make several good points about corruption in DC, and I've seen her make several bad points about policy. I haven't really payed close attention.

However, she graduated with honors from Boston U with a degree in Econ and I would bet large sums of money she's smarter than you and your weird obsession.

The obsession with AOC starts in the media. Fox wants to pounce on her every comment and 60 minutes gives her a national audience for accomplishing exactly what? The media wants to create an environment of hate and divisiveness. It sells.

A 1st term congresswoman who beat a democratic incumbent, took no corporate money and is pushing a bold plan that will be a significant part of political discussions over the next 2 years and you think CBS talking to her is creating an environment of divisiveness?

I agree she had a good story winning the primary, not sure how bold a plan she has since in its current form it is not at all feasible.

But she definitely is getting more air time / major coverage because divisiveness definitely sells, and she is clearly the lightening rod for liberals.

Feasible or not, it is a plan that is going to drive political discussion in the near future. Every 2020 dem nominee is going to have to discuss it. I don't recall a 1st term democrat or republican in my lifetime having as much influence over general policy discussions that she appears to have. It is an interesting dynamic that deserves some kind of coverage. That doesn't make anyone covering her story automatically divisive.

There have been plenty of partisan political figures that never got a 60 minutes interview. If they were trying to sell divisiveness, they have done a crap job by ignoring them.

The bold plan is a Hollywood set because there really isn’t anything behind it. I have no issue with her taking a stand In any issue, And I do applaud that she does not take corporate contributions.

It’s pretty disingenuous though to give somebody who was just elected and has no experience or understanding of how the process works a national stage. And they really didn’t challenge her during the interview.

You don’t think the MSM thrives on hate and divisiveness?

Looks like the only Democrat that has announced that has any realistic view on things is Klobacher. Still waiting on Biden, Beto and Bernie to weigh in. Quite frankly, the wild left of the party will be splitting the vote. A pragmatic centrist candidate should win the primary. I think Klobacher, Biden and maybe Beto will fight for the centrist ground which will eventually get my vote.

A lot of the Tea Party members were getting a lot of air time and seemed to have a lot of influence in Republican party during early years of Obama's first term. By same token, I was not a huge fan of the media giving some of their wild ideas major play at the time for same reasons.

Like I said, I do think it is an interesting dynamic worth covering and Cooper did challenge her in several spots. Frankly I also find it refreshing to just see someone give off the cuff answers about something they believe in without having their answers approved by focus groups, or modified by the democratic platform.

While I do think it is important to know how you will accomplish something realistically, I also want to know what you believe in that you will fight for and make realistic years from now.

Yea, I pretty much agree with that. I think I am a little to the left of you, and I do see some room for someone like Warren getting my vote, but I need to sold on her being a strong enough candidate.

I think the Democratic primary is going to be interesting to watch with so many candidates in the field. If you recall, in 2016, it was a small field and everybody was polite and deferred to Clinton. Even Bernie played nice.

It’s a bigger and hungrier field so I think the gloves come off a bit especially at the start to go after those with flaws. It looks like Pocahontas is going to be a natural target to be attacked. Will somebody run the “Trump playbook and be outrageous and look to differentiate from the start? Klobuchar and Brown are intriguing since they are speaking to working Americans and the middle class. Harris has the early sizzle and organization and since the CA primary is one of the first, she will definitely make the cut for awhile. Going out on a limb and predict Biden will not run.

Elizabeth Warren certainly has a place in national politics. However, I think that place is in the Senate. I don't see her as Presidential. I think she made a bad decision about gettin her DNA tested. I don't think that was a good look for her and made her look like she got sucked down the rabbit hole of Trump.

Agreed. She's not at the top of my list for now and for the reasons you mentioned but I could see her earning my vote if she makes a strong case from here. Harris actually was not one of my top choices but when I started seeing articles attacking her for her record as a DA, I started reading into her a bit more and she seems like she was fairly pragmatic and effective in her career. I just really see her as genuine and honest to date. If she can correct that, she is probably in the lead for my vote and I;m hoping for Beto gets the VP spot no matter who is at the top of the ticket.

Assuming you are not restricting this to the House, Barack Obama comes to mind.

In my opinion I think AOC has had a bigger initial impact at this point of their terms.
Part of that may be due to the timing of the 2020 elections coming up, but so far every candidate is being asked about the green new deal and what their take is. I don't think Obama was driving policy on a key issue 1 month in.

Her first speech on the floor broke records for views from C-SPAN.
Her oversight committee hearing video where she is talking about campaign corruption has the most views of any politician on twitter. Hard to downplay that. She has supporters that are extremely engaged.

I mean... I'm not the one constantly bringing her up on here. in general though, I do have a political "crush" on anyone who can get young people to go check out a C-SPAN video of a congressional committee hearing.

I doubt young people are watching C-Span. More likely the Woodstock demo.

Seems to me that Alexandra Casio-Cortez is the Democratic version of Sarah Palin.

Neither very knowledge & both have gotten much more press than they deserved.

I dont see that at all. One thing to not like her policies but she graduated with honors majoring in economics from BU. She has made some mistakes but she at least has a decent educational foundation.

Well if she majored in economics she should know that you can't spend money that does not exist. I'm referring to the money that was supposed to be generated by the Amazon deal. She had great plans on how to spend it I guess not realizing that the money would only come from taxes being paid by amazon. No Amazon = no money paid to the City.

I will say this while she is not very knowledgable she can learn and probably will in time. Sarah on the other hand showed that she had no desire to learn.

Did she need to major in economics? Most people with a bank account know that you can’t spend what you don’t have.

Hopefully hearing about this wealthy man leaving the UK and moving to Monaco to save $4B in taxes will eventually get people to realize not to piss off the super rich, they can afford to leave. You can’t afford to piss off the people who pay the most.

She has definitely said some stuff worth criticism, and that was one of those instances but to be fair - about 500 million was a grant which is unrelated to the potential jobs and tax revenues. So they can spend hundreds of millions of dollars that doesn't exist. There was some validity to the argument though the dollar amounts were clearly wrong.

I look at AOC in two ways. She is taking advantage of her stardom and making people in her own party uncomfortable (which I think is good in that both Dems and Reps establishment should be uncomfortable given the crappy jobs they have done). So she's getting more attention than everyone who is more senior than her, so maybe that's a good thing.

I give her credit too in that she is talking about issues. While I may not agree with her, at least she's not only about being anti-Trump. I thought Bernie's announcement yesterday was exactly that, leading with the name calling (misogynist, xenophobe, homophobe, etc.) and then his free shit speech.

Her ignorance is being overlooked right now, and at some point, once she stops being the new MSM plaything, it's going to catch up to her since no one (even in her own party) will pay attention to her if she keeps doing that.

If you haven't learned by now that having a degree confers intelligence on absolutely no one, then there's not much hope for you. The smartest guy I know was a physics major at SHU and was probably a straight-C student.

On the other hand, I think it is also safe to say that if you graduated cum laude from a top 50 University - you probably are not the "dumbest human on earth"

Overlooked? She makes a mistake and it will be the leading story on any conservative media outlet.

I agree she needs to get better overall or her popularity will fade, though she is very young in a safe D-District and has plenty of time.

Any conservative media outlet... that would be Fox...lol. I haven’t seen any other network be critical of her comments.

Media outlets that have wide appeal, large viewership or audiences.

Yeah, there are a lot of them among TV, radio and websites,
There are many outlets where people look for conservative news. They all scrutinize AOC. Not sure what you are objecting to.
