To date (including the entire season)

1. Nova 14-2 - King of the hill until someone knocks them off

2. Xavier 14-1 - One brutal game from being a top 5 team in the nation

3. Providence 14-2 - Best of the rest

4. Butler 12-4 - Slipping toward group below

5. Creighton 12-5 - Who would have thunk it

6. Seton Hall 12-4 - Need to right the ship

7 Georgetown 10-6 - This low due to the OOC results

8. Marquette 12-4 - Disappointment to date

9. DePaul 6-10 - Thank God for the Red Storm

10. St John's 7-10 - Future much brighter

I would put us at 7th...a little of what have you done lately...discounting the OOC a bit.

I'm dropping us to 8th; barely beat DePaul at home, Creighton better than I thought. For some reason I think Wojo is going to squeeze everything he can get out of Marquette before all is said and done.

Hope I'm wrong

Legit Question.

Is 2-2 not where most people would have had this team anyway? I would have said most likely loss against Marq/Nova. Win other 2. Aka I don't get why everyone is having a serious panic attack. The league is very tight and just need to find a way to get to 10 wins.

I am not saying it is likely but if we go on road and win at providence will those calling for willards head be back on board ? We had a bad performance yes, but it is one game and obviously our worst of year probably. I just don't believe this warranted the same reaction as last year, but I know many will disagree.

I get most are made because of the "benching" but I was personally ok with it for most part. I thought we got more out of the "2nd" team. Delgado was not very good, and was forced to handle to ball outside the block(good coaching by McD) and he did not look comfortable at all. After the foul I was ok with him sitting. Desi and IW I can understand people questioning, but KW thought he was getting more from others and while not my first choice I can live with it personally. I know I will probably get killed for this opinion, but it is what it is.

KW was sending a message to his top 3 guys. I'm OK with that. At least he tried something new.

That 5-8 group will fight for the last 2, or most likely, last spot for an NCAA bid. And based the eye test, we may end up 8th.
Its not like when Nova loses because they can't hit a 3. It has to do with body language between players and with players to coaches. Its having 5 guys play together on D. Its too soon to write this group off, but it looks like what has happened in the past under Willard.

1) Villanova - still the best team in the BE
2) Xavier

3) Providence
4) Butler

5) Creighton
6) Georgetown
7) Seton Hall
8) Marquette

9) DePaul
10) St John's - at least two years away

Legit Question.

Aka I don't get why everyone is having a serious panic attack. The league is very tight and just need to find a way to get to 10 wins.
I think you have to factor in the "team turmoil" element. The last three games (Desi mouthing off/benching, two bad practices, Desi getting benched again, then IW and AD getting benched and Willard's cryptic comments). We have talent to get to 5th, but right now we have a 9th place culture.

1. Nova: Back on top.
2. Xavier: Bounced back after the tough loss at Nova. apparently still no time table on Sumner, but seem to be playing well.
3. Providence: The Marquette loss was a tough one. I don't think PC played poorly, but rather Marquette showed some good toughness down the stretch. PC missed a couple shots they normally make. Should have got the ball back to Dunn sooner on that final possession, but great block by Ellenson for the win. Just one loss for PC, not the end of the world.

4. Butler: One of the tougher portions of their schedule behind them, but they did drop 2 home games in that stretch. Need to be #businesslike against the teams they should beat coming up on their schedule. The next part of their schedule is a little funky as it is against the teams they should be able to beat, but mainly road games. Don't be surprised to see them dip a bit more before they finish the season strong against.

5. Marquette: Tourney hopes took a nice step forward this week. Huge win at the Dunk.

6. Creighton: Moves ahead of Georgetown and Seton Hall as the best option for a 6th bid.
7. Seton Hall: Looks like a replay of last year. Can Willard save this season?
8. Georgetown: At this point I am just hoping they win at UConn on the 23rd to salvage this throw away season

9. St. John's: played Marquette tough at home. Still struggling
10. DePaul: heard the foundation on the new arena is looking nice.

The inertia built into his algorithms can be frustrating, but many more times than not it tracks well.

Obviously the more data the better chance of accuracy. Plus emotions are taken out of the equation so that helps.

Still no mathematical formula is perfect. Parameters usually make the difference in many of these type ratings.

if we can avoid losses to DePaul and St. John's, hopefully find a way to finish .500 in the league our RPI should hold up pretty well over the course of the season; one would think.

POWER RANKINGS

1. Villanova (14-2, 4-0) - Entering Wednesday's tilt with Marquette, the Wildcats are the league's lone unbeaten team, having beaten Xavier, Creighton, Seton Hall and Butler. Next up: Marquette, Wednesday.

2. Xavier (15-1, 3-1) - Chris Mack's club is expecting the return of 6-foot-5 point guard Edmond Sumner any day now and that could spell trouble for the rest of the league. Next up: At Marquette, Saturday.

3. Providence (15-2, 3-1) - Likely lottery pick Kris Dunn continued his heroics Tuesday night by going for 20 points and 8 rebounds and hitting a 17-foot jumper at the buzzer as the No. 12 Friars rallied from a 7-point deficit to edge host Creighton. Next up: Seton Hall, Saturday.

4. Butler (12-4, 1-3) - The Bulldogs have faced a brutal early schedule, losing to Providence, Xavier and Villanova, but the schedule eases up a bit now beginning with Saturday's home tilt against St. John's. Next up: St. John's, Saturday.

5. Marquette (12-4, 2-2) - Led by reigning Big East Rookie of the Week Henry Ellenson, the Golden Eagles have won two straight entering Wednesday's tilt at Villanova. Next up: At Villanova, Wednesday.

6. Georgetown (10-6, 3-1) - This team remains hard to figure. Two of the Hoyas' three league wins have come against DePaul and they already have six losses on the season. Still, the talent is there to challenge anyone in the league. Next up: At St. John's, Wednesday.

7. Creighton (12-6, 3-2) - Two transfers have proven to be huge for the Bluejays thus far in reigning Big East Player of the Week Maurice Watson and Cole Huff. And Greg McDermott remains one of the best coaches in the league. Next up: At DePaul, Sunday.

8. Seton Hall (12-4, 2-2) - The Pirates were a no-show in Saturday's double-digit home loss to Creighton and now face a brutal stretch: at Providence, Villanova, at Xavier. Next up: At Providence, Saturday.

9. St. John's (7-10, 0-4) - The Red Storm were dealt a tough break when big man Yankuba Sima was lost for 6-8 weeks with a broken bone in his hand. Still, the Johnnies are building for the future with young pieces like Federico Mussini, Kassoum Yakwe and Malik Ellison. Next up: Georgetown, Wednesday.

10. DePaul (6-11, 0-5) - In Year One of Dave Leitao Part II, the Blue Demons continue to struggle in this league and figure to battle St. John's to avoid the cellar. Next up: Creighton, Sunday.
