Down the stretch

1. Villanova 24-3 13-1 -Team of the year? - Coach of the Year?
2. Xavier 24-3 12-3- Game of the year Wednesday?

3. Seton Hall 19-7 9-5 - C'mon, with two weeks to go who didn't have the Hall here?
4. Providence 19-8 7-7 - Winner of Thursday's game near NCAA lock.
5. Butler 18-9 7-8 9-9 - Eye test
6. Creighton 17-10 8-6 10-8- Hell of a job by McDermott

7. Marquette 17-10 6-8 - Another eye test pick
8. Georgetown 14-14 7-8 8-10 - Thompson could not be doing a worse job with this group.

9. St. John's 8-20 1-14 - Last couple of games vaults them ahead of DePaul
10. DePaul 8-18 2-12 3-15- Have they packed it in?

You know Leitao is going to convert that Demon group into post-season wreckers. When they play tough, they are far from an easy out.

I'm burning incense, poking blue horned dolls with big pins, and reciting incantations in advance of that game. It would please us all NO END to shovel DePaul into the dumpster and perform the coup de grace after four minutes into the second half of that game.

That's why I want to have 11 wins going into that game just in case that happens. Let's get 2 of the next 3. Heck, let's get them all.

Completely agree, 09, completely agree.

Kind of why I was pretty upset over the Butler loss (to flog the heck out of a dead horse).

It was definitely a missed opportunity, but not a killer by any stretch. Think of where we'd be with that one and Villanova (two golden opportunities at home that we squandered). Holy cow.

In the end, Seton Hall stole one on the road today, which is the key to success in the Big East. Butler did the same thing at SHU. It happens.

The biggest worry I have for Seton Hall looking ahead is to be matched against Butler in the first round of the tournament. As much as Gtown has been a good opponent for the Hall, Butler has been the total opposite.

Butler's play against Seton Hall reminds me of the edge Pitt seemed to have over one of the championship teams in the early 90s.

I agree with you generally but we've had our moments against Pitt. We swept Pitt in the 88-89 run to the NCAAs and beat Pitt in the 91-92 first round BET game at the buzzer which lead to our first BET championship. And who can forget that epic win at Pitt, last game of the 2006 season, that got us into the NCAAs.

I have Butler ahead of pc till I see pc play good again, which I hope is not this week.
In truth my eye test says you are right. But I listed it the other way for one reason. Providence is clearly a two man team and those two players are worn down. The week off should revitalize them as it did for the Hall and if it does I expect the Friars to play better moving forward.

I also have Butler ahead of Providence and maybe even Creighton as well. As the season has gone on I think a couple of things have happened:

1. Dunn and Bentil are getting worn down
2. Teams have figured out ways to play them defensively that disrupt the individual talents of both of them and the team doesn't have much else right now
3. Cooley, while a great motivator, is not the best tactical coach and can't adjust

Lloyde, I am not convinced yet that Butler isn't a good matchup for us, crazy as it sounds. They have beaten us like a drum the last 3 years, but just looking at this year on paper I'm not convinced. I feel our loss this year to them had more to do with our intensity, or lack thereof.

Chrabasz is a tough guard for us, but Delgado should be a tough guard for them. We have the right guys (Ish, Gordon) to defend Kelan Martin and Dunham, but both had off nights for us. Jones is a tough matchup for just about any team, but in my opinion we should have an edge in guard play. Tyler Lewis isn't giving Butler what I thought he might. But, it is hard to argue with results. Our lone win against them was an ugly rock fight at the Garden.
