Athletic Bracketology

Lunardi has us as the last team in. An 11/11 matchup with Cincinnati with the winner moving on to Memphis to play Alabama.

Illinois/Morehead State is the other half of the pod.

Alabama would be a nightmare draw.
Being in the tournament would be outstanding no matter who we draw. Let’s be real this team beat a slumping MU team by 3 and bad Georgetown team by 4 with both Dawes playing his best and Richmond playing great. If those guys even take a small step back any point we’re in trouble those and 3 and 4 point wins become losses. I know we’re 4-1 but this team has a lot of work to do over the next 15+ games cleaning up things like turnovers. Sign me up for being in the tournament.

I'm with you - I don't think Seton Hall makes the tournament in the end. But if they did get in, Alabama is not a team you'd want to face. Way better than its record.

doesnt matter to me. we could easily be out of the tournament when all said and done. ill sign up to get in with Sha at the helm.

my thoughts exactly. big 5 games upcoming that could change the whole season.

Jerry Palm at CBS, who has traditionally downplayed us over the years has us in as a 9 seed in his Friday update.

First round in Memphis against Nebraska with Houston looming at the top seed in the West.

Exactly. For me, today, no such thing as a bad draw. We keep it up and i get greedy.

hate to say it...reminds me of both Gonzo and Willard's 2nd years. End of January Gonzo had us a couple games over .500 in conference then big 5 games losing streak. Willard had us 4-1 followed by a 6 game losing streak. I do think Sha's team is much better than both of those teams so I'm hoping that trend stops, but both of those teams along with this one really lack depth. That's my biggest concern going forward even more than the sloppy play at times. You're right these next 5 games are big.

Alabama starts 4 seniors including one of shas old SPU guys, Aaron Estrada

Starting front court is 6’10 and 6’11. Not a great matchup but not something to be afraid of

Jeez, you know how to throw a wet blanket over everything. MU is slumping, PC lost Hopkins, UConn lost Klingan. Our fans are worse than our detractors. I never expected to be 4-1 in BE play at this point, and neither did anyone else here. Can we enjoy it for a minute? It's as if some people can't wait for the shoe to drop, and get back to criticizing the program and everyone around it.

Far from a wet blanket. Just looking for the team to get to the tournament. Grew up with a people who knew how to lift you up when you're down and kick you in the ass so you're head didn't get to big during the good times. I'm always a big picture fan. I don't get caught up in the good streaks or bad streaks. There was ridiculously crazy talk when we lost out in SD and I think some of the talk now is ridiculous. Hoping we keep winning, but my eyes tell me not to get caught up in the ridiculous pie in the sky talk.

There is always tons to be concerned about. So let's win today and that will be one less worry.

It’s amazing we are even having this conversation after the rough OOC performance. Kind of fun to speculate at this point. The bottom line is the team needs to take care of business at home and win that DePaul road game. 2 or 3 more Quad 1 wins could really bolster the Resume. Next week is important at home.

Yes, it's all under the banner of "keeping it real." Was the MU win less of a win because they're slumping? What do Gonzo and Willard teams from 15 years ago have to do with this season?

It counts as one win, just like the Northeastern and Albany wins each count as one win. The Iowa and USC losses each only count as one loss. I don't care how this team gets to 20 wins, but if we get there we're in.

Those teams have no bearing on what happens today, but the parallels are intriguing. Both teams relying heavily on the starting 5. Both teams had coaches in the 2nd year coaches who really couldn't go to the bench for much. Apparently my hope that Sha has a different outcome than the 2 previous coaches got lost on you. I guess we can't be reminded of the things of the past. In a couple years if Sha has us playing like we were under PJ, I'll keep that to myself because it will have no bearing on the season going on.

I understand your point about getting to 20 wins, but I almost stopped reading when you equated the Marquette win to a win over Albany. It ignores reality that the team is playing well in conference after a brutal stretch against Power 6 foes in the OOC.

Worrying about particular matchups from one of n bracketology projections in January is maybe not a productive use of time.

Did you guys ever stop to think Alabama, or any team in the NCAA field for that matter, would look at SHU as a bad draw? The way we are playing now, the fact that we've knocked off 2 Top 10 teams (so far) and having Sha with his NCAA tourney coaching resume, I definitely wouldn't want to face us in the tournament. I'm not saying we'd be the better team, but I think we've proven more than capable of beating teams ranked much higher than us.

First things first...we need to make the field.
