Attendance Tonight

should be more than that as the game goes on....hopefully!
We are currently averaging about 7800 for the home conf games (7th in the conf). For away games, we are second in the conference averaging 11,800.

I say 6,800 reported in the box score and officially announced. I believe they still used tickets distributed for reporting attendance. As far as actual through the turnstiles I say 5,500.

The 6:30 start will surely make it empty at intro per the above and what do people think about the switch to 6:30 having on overall attendance for these games. USF game was also moved to a 6:30 start.

Many people differ on noon games, 9 pm starts, etc. It's all personal preference. But I haven't seen anyone laud a 6:30 start. It is a rough time to tip in a major city like Newark.

Hopefully students show up. They have been fun to watch so far this season..... Rock Lobsters.... I chuckle to myself every time I glance over at them.

Working from home today... so I can make the 6:30 start

Yes, the student section for the most part has been so much better this year. The lobsters have been great. I hope maybe the lobsters can get more of the students involved and making noise throughout the game.

It would be nice to hear the entire student section chanting "LETS GO PIRATES" at different points of the game. It would be great to see all of them waving and screaming as Butler shoots free throws tonight. It would be great to hear them all screaming during key defensive possessions tonight. And finally after the Pirates win tonight it would be so great to see ALL the students stick around and be there as the team gets together in front of them to sing the alma mater.

Who knows maybe if the students are super energized tonight maybe it gets us old folks up and chanting as well.

LETS GO PIRATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a game where the Pirates have to play well despite a
smaller crowd.

I'm thinking in the mid 6000 range also. Probably less than that in the building. SHU just had an nice size crowd against GTown. Having 3 games in a row is good for the team's win/loss record, but I'm not sure the non-season ticketholders are going to attend the entire homestand. I believe economics are a factor for many sportsfans, not only Seton Hall people. Plus Butler is a solid program, but maybe not a marquee draw. Who knows maybe you'll get 7000 plus.

The Star Ledger did not help listing the game at 7 PM on the front page advertisement? Poor job by them or our marketing company.

Hopefully the place fills up by midway through the first half. I bet student attendance will not be good as lots have classes or labs late in the day on a Wednesday. I'll be there with my party of 4.

"Plus Butler is a solid program, but maybe not a marquee draw."

Yes, but you hate to see them in your NCAA bracket. Somewhat like Princeton back in the day.

Their basketball program is excellent. Our fans don't have that dislike
for Butler like a UConn, Cuse, Gtown or Rutgers.

I can't make it due to my job, however I expect a small crowd. 6:30 is an awful start time. Anyone who works in city or even in the brubs its tough on. FS1 does it to try and get eyes away from the espn 7pm tip I believe tho

How many times will we stand for a d stop only for other team to score. Is it just me or does anyone else feel that way

Is that right? I always figured it was to give a little more breathing room between that game and a 9 p.m. tip, but I actually don't know if there is a 9 p.m. game tonight. You could be right, though.

To me it makes sense, so I always assumed that was the reason. But maybe I am wrong.

There's no second game on FS1 tonight. After the SHU game, there is an international soccer game on live. The only other game tonight is a 7 p.m. matchup between Marquette and Providence of CBS Sports.

I don't know too many people that are home and ready to watch a game by 6:30 PM but I guess there are a lot of people who maybe do shift work or get out earlier in the day. The earliest I even turn on a TV is 8 PM or so unless of course SHU is playing an away game. But I'm sure the TV folks know a lot more than I do.

I am personally taping game and watching when i get home later. I will turn my phone off

My guess is 7k by 7PM and kniespolice posts at 6:15PM that nobody is in the building :)

Good one and I'll be he posts that nobody is actually in their seats at 6:20. LOL!

The Newark Bears used to start games at 5:10 PM on weekdays hoping to get the after work 4:30 and 5:00PM crowd from PSE&G, NJ Transit, Prudential etc. And that never worked and you know it had nothing to do with TV like these FS1 doubleheaders at 6:30 & 8;30.

Fox's soccer contract is in the billions (primarily because of World Cup rights), so I'm willing to bet the Mexico game (usually a huge draw in the U.S.) was the biggest factor for the SHU game getting bumped.

The SHU/Butler game won't have good ratings whether it's on at 6:30 or 7, but it does stink for the fans coming from work. The atmosphere will suffer, but you sometimes have to take some lumps when you are a few rungs down the priority ladder at the network.

Well, there it is. Can't argue with those ratings.

Attendance is terrible. What a disgrace. Hopefully it will fill up a bit more in 2nd half.

7476 announced paid attendance. Probably 6000+ in the building.

It was bigger than anticipated. Too bad we can't get the Butler home game on a weekend.

We have great fans, we just don't have enough. The team seems to play with much more energy
when there are 8000 plus in there instead of 6000. A 6:30pm midweek game was a bad break after
the juiced up weekend crowd against GTown. The crowd that was there seemed into from the broadcast.

No excuses though, Butler played at a higher level.

The crowd looked great on TV. They were loud too.
Crowd was fine. Not great, but I would say at least 6000 and probably a little more.

Very loud. In fact IMO louder than at the Georgetown game.

The crowd did everything possible to help the team pull out a victory.

I thought the crowd was disappointing last night. I know that the game started at 6:30 but even if people thought it started at 7, it wasn't a big crowd at all. Perhaps Butler doesn't generate much excitement as the old Big East teams. But people missed out on a well coached team who executes.

The team has been playing really well. There should have been more people in the stands. The crowd got loud at times but did not have that consistent energy all game.

For where we are and where we are trying to get to, the crowd was terrible. The people that were there were great and got loud at points, but no reason not to have another 2,000 there. Maybe too many people got sick on the cafeteria lobster fra diavolo. The next 2 games are enormous, not just because they would bring us to 19 wins, but we need some momentum and the word to spread for people to show up vs PC and vs X.

prof ed brought a friend who was a knowledgeable sports fan. He was very surprised at the small size of the crowd. We do a poor job of supporting these kids.

SHU Athletics doesn't do enough marketing, promotions, etc to fill the lower bowl.

The Living Social promo that I had posted sold around 270 tickets, but why can't the athletic dept work at doing group sales with CYO teams and/or other youth groups?

They should also try to book Willard on local sports radio shows and the like.

Most NJ sports fans are not too aware of how good of a season the Pirates are having thus far.

2k more fans last night just may have made a difference.

As time goes by I agree with this more and more. Unless you're a poster here, season ticket holder or follow SHU on twitter, you'd never know when games are being played. The only collateral material I ever get about SHU games comes directly from Ticketmaster. They need better outreach...buy email lists for eblasts, start a google ad word campaign, etc.

Why don't you know this? There are countless places to get thus info. I get emails from the athletic dept all the time. Schedules are all over the net. They called me 4 times to remind me of the time change last night. Promotion is tons better than it used to be. You can buy a season ticket for 150 bucks. The problem is SHU fans, plain and simple. Games are too late, too early, conflict with nyg game, so tedious. Get off of your ass and go to a game.
