First off, the takes on this board are laughable. Talked with a 247 guy that does ratings. Here’s what he said. I’ll have my assessment tomorrow.

“Long is a lot like Rhoden. 3 star at time of commitment but stock clearly soaring. When it’s all said and done, just like Rhoden, he will be a 4-star top 125 guy. SHU getting two top 125 players that project as four year guys who will develop into All Big East players by the time they are upperclassmen.

Dimingus Stevens is a big time talent. He is one of the best shooters in the class and he has the length and athleticism to become a very good defender. He’s a hard worker and has played on some superbly talented teams over the years. His stock fell a little bit but in my mind he should still be a four star kid on 247 and I’ll push for him to end up there.

As a player, Long has great length and athleticism and he plays downhill. He’s getting better every day and his defense and court vision are superb. He can play either guard spot because of his length and versatility and I see him developing into a big time PG. His biggest weakness is his jumpshot but that will improve over time. I’ve seen comparisons to Javontae Smart and I like that comp. Another comp I like a lot is Quentin Gooden out of Xavier but I think Long has more upside as a defender and rebounder.

Now they have two spots filled and can be patient and focused with the last spot or two in the class and shoot for the stars without risking being left empty handed. Also keep in mind unlike previous years, SHU took these two kids BEFORE their top targets decided and AFTER hosting just about every top target for a visit. That means they made the decision to press these two for commitments, not scrambling after losing on top targets. In reality, these two likely emerged as top targets after the visits while someone like Posh might’ve fallen.

They are still heavily involved for Maddox and Moncrieffe as well as Elijah Taylor and a few others. I expect them to make the top 7 for top 30 forward Earl Timberlake. They are in a great spot now to land a class that ends up having 3-4 top 125-150 players, which would be a clear sign they’ve turned the corner from up and coming program to established and perennial top 30 program.”
