Very disappointed coming off that feel good loss to Villanova. We may have
used a good deal of energy the other night and had nothing in the tank today. Not sure
and don't want to make excuses either.

I'd say Desi was the only player that came to play against Xavier. The other guys were all
off the mark. I thought IW took a step back today in his point guard play. Carrington was so-so.

Our frontcourt looked like men playing against boys today. Our guys got exploited time after time
against an excellent team. It is becoming problematic that our frontcourt and bench are not contributing
any points.

Every weakness that Seton Hall has as a unit was exposed today. Like another poster mentioned if we play
a near perfect game we can compete otherwise the experienced BigEast teams and coaches will take
it right to us.

The season is not over and you could say that it is actually beginning, but today was bad plain and simple. I know some might say we only lost by 8, but it wasn't that close in the 2nd half.

Bottom line is coaching staffs failure to recruit a competent point guard, a semi consistent 3 point shooter, and are not developing the players as they should be. Not to mention an offense that doesn't utilize Delgado.

Let's keep making excuses for them.

Today is the beginning. Just went through (by far) the hardest part of the schedule. Will reserve comment until later in the season, but nothing to this point has surprised me regarding our beloved Pirates. Still think that we can get to 10 wins, but would not be surprised if we don't improve on the facets of the game that you identified and implode. We definitely have some individual ability -- lets see if the coaches can put it together.

Fortunately, we've won 10 games this season. To reach 10 wins in the BE this season however would require a miracle. Fact of life.

We played a poor second half. We came to play, but they did us in on the second half.

Most wanted one win out of the three... we did, so now go on a winning streak and go dancing.

Give me a break. We just played the No 5 Team at their home arena with a bunch of sophomores. We also had the disadvantage of having to fly out after a Wednesday night game. Of course we are likely to lose these types of games. We are not the PJ teams of the early 90s.

Never thought you'd be what's his names speech writer. With him it's always something, but wait till next year.

No disrespect intended here, but blaming the staff for "failing to recruit a competent point guard" is misguided and a baseless accusation. No one predicted Gibbs AND Sina were going to bail on us 9 months out of this season. Who exactly were they going to recruit that was any good and could play right away this season? Getting Derrick Gordon to come here was a big get for us considering the time the coaching staff had to work with.

It's a young team, you're not going to be able to draft over the young talent we have. And when you expect your backcourt to return the following season as a junior and a redshirt senior, you're not exactly expecting to have scholarships open to give to anyone of merit.

As for "recruiting" a point guard. We have Myles Powell coming in here next year, what else do you want? Last year's situation can be blamed for a lot of things, and coaches and players a like can share in that blame. But I think Willard and crew did the best they could to come out of that situation as strong as possible.

NYC Pirate sums things up very well. Defense today was horrendous...especially by Delgado and Anthony. Sorry to single these two young men out, but they really were awful on defense today. Our half court offense is also painful to watch. Only Desi, IW and KC move. The bigs are like statues. Gordon is game as can be, but he's just not a scorer. Ish has improved and is also a battler, but he got pushed around today and got a taste of Big East home cooking from the refs. His offensive game is non-existent. Singh is a ways from contributing. Minimal athleticism, weak defender. Hopefully he'll get better.

Desi was a true force today on offense. Had one bad TO when he got too casual with a handoff to IW near end of half and got his pocket picked, but he was great offensively in both transition and in half court. I think Willard sits him too much.

Willard gets credit for recruiting IW, Desi, KC and Delgado but he also lost two strong guards in Gibbs and Sina. When you're in your sixth year as a coach you shouldn't be without a true point guard or a center.

I hate hearing this "we're a young team" crap. They are young but the core is very, very talented. This should be an NCAA team. If we don't make it Willard should be fired. That's my two cents.

These guys just played the number five team in the country on their home court. Our bigs were schooled but I bet they will know what to look for when X comes to Newark. I'm looking for a win when they come. These kids are tough and spirited. They will be more than ready for the next game.

Yes, we played a poor game..6/27 from the three and 10/19 from the charity stripe.....plus out rebounded...and lost by 8...yes a bad game!

Your response is off the mark. Fact is that Willard has not recruited one true point guard. Gibbs and Sina are not point guards but combo guards. Powell is a 2 guard. The only true point guard is Jevon Thomas and he is eligible next year so Willard's seventh year.

We do not match up well with teams that have good active bigs. We desperately need to recruit a 6-10 guy that can defend the middle.

And until we show more patience offensively teams will continue to zone us and hope we jack up shots.
