SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - In support of the Vs. Cancer Foundation's fight against childhood cancer, members of the Seton Hall baseball team shaved their heads as a show of solidarity for a fourth straight year.
The charity event was held Saturday as part of the "University Day" festivities. The baseball team also held its annual Old Timer's Game and intra-squad game.
Prior to the events on the field and the head shaving, the founder and CEO of the Vs. Cancer Foundation, Chase Jones, spoke to the baseball team about the impact it's having by being a pioneer in their head-shaving efforts.
"The Seton Hall baseball team has laid the groundwork for the raising of tens of thousands of dollars," said Chase Jones founder and CEO of the Vs. Cancer Foundation. "Together, we've proven that college baseball can step into a children's hospital and change outcomes for these kids."
"Just by shaving your heads and letting people know you're trying to help out kids with cancer, you've proven that you can make a difference," Jones continued. "Since Seton Hall started this, we've now worked with literally hundreds of teams across the country doing the same thing... using their platform to raise funding and awareness."
For seniors like Chris Chiaradio (Teaneck, N.J.) this is the fourth straight fall shaving his head for the cause.
"I purposely let my hair grow out for this cause," Chiaradio said. "Just about everyone knows someone who has battled cancer. Our team is certainly no different. It's an honor to play a small role in the fight against it."
