SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- Senior D.J. Ruhlman (Belle Mead, N.J.) drove in the game-winning run with an RBI single with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Seton Hall baseball team edged Georgetown, 2-1, on Thursday.

With the game knotted at one, Kyle Grimm (Bergenfield, N.J.) led off the bottom of the ninth with a single to left field and advanced to second when Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch. Jackson Martin (Collegeville, Pa.) pinch ran for Grimm and tagged up and moved to third on a fly ball by Tyler Boyd (Succasunna, N.J.). That's when Ruhlman delivered the game-winner.

This was Ruhlman's first game back after missing five games following an emergency appendectomy on May 2.

Another Pirate making a triumphant return today was starter Shane McCarthy (Fair Haven, N.J.). The freshman hadn't pitched since April 25, but turned in 6.1 innings today and allowed just one unearned run. McCarthy surrendered just three hits, while striking out four and walking one in a no decision.

The game was locked in a pitchers' duel with McCarthy and Georgetown starter Matt Hollenbeck keeping their opposition off the scoreboard through the first six innings. The Hoyas finally broke through with a run in the top of the seventh as A.C. Carter singled home Chase Bushor with the first run of the ball game.

Seton Hall (23-22, 8-8) struck back immediately however. Grimm again led off the inning with a hard-hit single. Annunziata followed with a double off the right-center field fence to advance Grimm to third with no outs. Georgetown reliever Simon Mathews got Boyd to pop out to short, but Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) grounded out to second base, which allowed Grimm to score with the tying run.

Joe DiBenedetto (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Sam Burum (Robbinsville, N.J.) each pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Burum earned the victory to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Grimm and Zack Weigel (Oak Park, Ill.) each had two hits for The Hall.

Seton Hall and Georgetown will close the regular season with a double-header on Friday. First pitch of the first game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The Pirates will honor seven graduating seniors prior to the games.

The Hall can clinch a berth in the 2015 BIG EAST Tournament with a victory and a Villanova loss. The Wildcats, who also entered Thursday tied at 7-8 with Seton Hall and Georgetown, lost to Creighton. A Seton Hall victory and another loss by Villanova would give the Pirates a two-game lead over both Georgetown and Villanova with one game to play.

Pirates down 2-0 in the 4th inning of game#2 of the series. Game being broadcast on BigEast Digital live now. 2nd game of double header is on the PSN. Field looks terrific on the BE Digital.

Big day for this years' baseball team.

Hall down 2-1 in the bottom of the 6th against the GTown ace. Excellent defense by SHU in this one.

Butler and Xavier are in extra innings. Butler must have that one. SHU needs one of these 2 and they should be in.

Pirates had tied it at 2-2, but GTown takes the lead 3-2 going to bottom of the 7th.

Down 4-2 going to top of the 9th. Butler won their game in 13 innings. If the Pirates lose here
they must win the 2nd game to control their own destiny.

SHU down 5-2 in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs and down to last strike rally for 4 runs to win 6-5. Excellent
heart in that last inning. Very close to the BigEast now.

Amazing comeback and some clutch hitting. So if the Pirates win the 2nd game they're in. If either Nova or Butler lose their games SHU is also in.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- The Seton Hall baseball team scored four runs with two outs and the bases empty in the bottom of the ninth inning to edge Georgetown, 6-5, in game one of Friday's double-header.

Seton Hall (24-22, 9-8), desperately needing a win to keep their BIG EAST Tournament hopes alive, registered their second-straight walk-off victory with a single by Chris Chiaradio (Teaneck, N.J.) that broke a 5-5 tie.

With two outs and trailing 5-2, Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) worked the count full and drew a walk. Tyler Boyd (Succasunna, N.J.) followed with a double to left-center, which scored Annunziata to cut the Hoya lead to 5-3. Alex Falconi (Freeport, N.Y.) singled to center field, scoring Boyd, and advanced to second on the throw. After Georgetown made a pitching change, Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) beat out an infield single, but a throwing error by Georgetown reliever David Ellingson, allowed pinch runner Jackson Martin (Collegeville, Pa.) to score with the tying run. It also allowed the winning run, Ramiz, to move into scoring position. On a 2-0 count, Chiaradio delivered a hard single up the middle, which scored Ramiz and made the Pirates winners in miraculous walk-off fashion.

Georgetown (24-26, 7-10) got on the board first, scoring single runs in both the first and second innings off Seton Hall starter Anthony Elia (Flanders, N.J.). But after the rough start, Elia settled down and turned in a strong performance. The senior tossed 6.2 innings and gave up just two earned runs in a no decision.

In the bottom of the fourth, Seton Hall got a run back. Zack Weigel (Oak Park, Ill.) reached on a throwing error by Georgetown's third baseman to start the inning. He then stole second and came in to score on an RBI single to left field by Kyle Grimm (Bergenfield, N.J.), which cut the Hoya lead to 2-1.

Seton Hall tied the game at two in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Pirates had runners on second and third with just one out, but could only muster one run on an RBI ground out by Grimm.

The Hoyas struck for single runs in each of the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to take a sizeable 5-2 lead into the ninth inning, but that's when Seton Hall's theatrics began.

Luke Cahill (Tinton Falls, N.J.) picked up the victory as the last of five Seton Hall pitchers in game one.

Chiaradio was the lone Pirate with two hits. Grimm was the only Pirate with two RBIs.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- The Seton Hall baseball team fell to Georgetown, 5-2, in the second game of a Friday double-header to complete the 2015 regular season, but clinched a berth in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament.

With Seton Hall's victory in game one of today's double-header, and Butler's 16-2 loss at Xavier, the Pirates earned a berth to the conference championship tournament for a fifth consecutive season.

Georgetown struck for three runs in the top of the third inning of Seton Hall starter Matt Leon (Bethlehem, Pa.) to take a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, the Pirates had a golden opportunity for a big inning, but settled for only one run to cut the lead to 3-1. Ryan Ramiz (Freehold, N.J.) singled to lead off the inning. Chris Chiaradio (Teaneck, N.J.) walked, and Derek Jenkins (Annandale, N.J) reached on an infield single to load the bases with no outs. But Zack Weigel (Oak Park, Ill.) popped up and Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.) struck out. It took a throwing error by the Georgetown third baseman on a grounder by Mike Caputo (Morganville, N.J.) to push across a run. Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) grounded out to end the Pirates' threat.

With the score 5-1, Seton Hall tried to stir up the same bottom of the ninth magic it cooked up in game one, but fell short. Annunziata led off with a triple to right center. With one out Alex Falconi (Freeport, N.Y.) flew out to right field, and Annunziata tagged and scored, but the Pirates couldn't muster any more theatrics.

Leon took the loss after giving up three earned runs in four innings. Five Pirate relievers combined to allow the other two Hoya runs.

Seton Hall has earned the #3 seed in the BIG EAST Championship and will play #2 seed Creighton on Thursday, May 21 in Omaha, Neb. Top-seeded St. John's will face #4 Georgetown on the same day to open the double-elimination tournament.
