Common sense views on economy and energy. Referenced China expanding coal powered energy over the past two years.

Will be the first openly gay Treasury Secretary but that’s not the headline…it’s his qualifications.

There is a good chance all the nominees make it through because of the Senate majority, but the Dems have done an awful job with lines of questioning with nominees.

In 2008, China relies on coal for more than 80% of their energy production. That’s now down to 60% because of their massive investments in renewables which have grown far faster than their coal expansion.

Yes, China is not the good guy here. They would do whatever they need to do to meet their energy needs but it should be telling that renewables are a larger share of their energy production compared to the US.

Sure, the trend is going to renewables but they care more about driving their economy than the environment.

Right. Adding capacity and expanding their economy has been their goal. They realized that renewables could be a large part of doing both as they have been adding more production from renewables than coal in recent years. They are also projecting they will not need as much coal and will be lowering how much they are using after 2026. We’ll see if that holds true.

And that was Bessant’s point. The pivot to coal (whether short run or possibly long term), assures they won’t come close to their emissions goal. They only care about being energy independent as nd cost effective; not being good environmental stewards.
