Got about 1 1/2 hours to wade through. That's going to take time. For now I got this info directly from the SJU SID via email.
St. John’s Head Coach Chris Mullin…
On last night’s game against Seton Hall:
“I don’t know any team that wins when you shoot 29 percent. We have to keep working. I’ve been pleased with our effort, but we just haven’t really executed. So we’ll keep plugging away and I hope we break through soon.”
On Villanova:
“They’ve always had great guard play. They share the ball beautifully, they’re in sync and play together really well. They play at a nice pace and have shot makers. They’re ranked as one of the best teams in the country and rightfully so.”
On Villanova guards Ryan Arcidiacono and Josh Hart:
“Both those guys are leaders. They’re veteran guys that set the tone and steady the ship. Experience means a lot and they’ve got it, playing in a lot of big games.”
On Federico Mussini playing a lot minutes:
“Ideally, I would love to manage his minutes. On the flip side, this is great experience for him moving forward. It’s a balance of getting him experience and making sure he’s okay physically. He’s the type of guy to catch fire so to me the number of minutes is not a concern, it’s more of the effort level and how hard you’re playing.”
On Federico Mussini’s season thus far:
“From day one he’s been a great worker. He’s a tremendous teammate [and] has a high basketball IQ. The most impressive thing about him no matter what goes on, if he has a good or bad game, the next day he comes and works hard and he’s very diligent. He’s going to be very successful throughout his career at St. John’s.”
On the toughest part of building a winning program:
“Separating the competitive fire and the will to win, and also making sure each and every day no matter what the scoreboard says, the next day is a positive workday where guys are improving. We’ve been pretty good with that starting from the summer. If you look at a career, you’re going to go through tough times and the guys that stay focused on the task at hand on a daily basis, those are the guys that will succeed. Adversity is going to separate the winners from the losers. I’m talking about the way they handle it because if you hang in there, believe me this thing will turn around, there’s no question about that.”
