Seton Hall improves to 8-2 in BIG EAST play.
OMAHA, NEB. – Graduate student Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) had 21 points to lead the Seton Hall women's basketball team to its fourth BIG EAST road victory of the season with a 72-55 win at DePaul on Saturday.

The Blue Demons scored the first basket of the afternoon, but it was their last lead of the game as the Pirates answered with an 11-2 run and never looked back. The Hall improves to 8-2 in BIG EAST play and has a tight grip on third place in the conference.

Masonius had a team-high 21 points to go with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) had 18 points, six rebounds and two steals.

Sophomore Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) finished with 15 points, a career-high eight rebounds and was 9-for-9 from the free-throw line.

THE STORY:
With the score tied at four, the Pirates went on a 7-0 run, with Eads and Masonius hitting back-to-back three-pointers to give them an 11-4 lead with 6:41 left in the first quarter. DePaul battled back to tie the game at 13, but Eads hit a three-pointer from the Wintrust Arena logo at the buzzer to give The Hall a 16-13 lead after 10 minutes.

Leading 32-26 with 2:11 left, Seton Hall closed out the first half with a 7-0 burst to send it into halftime with a commanding 39-26 advantage. The Pirates committed only two turnovers in the first 20 minutes, compared to 10 for DePaul, which were turned into 11 points for The Hall.

DePaul out-scored the Pirates, 19-to-11, as it methodically got back into the game and closed its deficit to 50-45 at the end of three quarters. The Hall responded, however, by scoring the first 10 points of the fourth quarter, and a tough driving layup by Catalon boosted its lead 15 points, 60-45, with 6:28 left to play. DePaul never got closer got their deficit under double-digits the rest of the way.





THE NUMBERS:
  • Seton Hall was 26-for-65 (40.0%) from the floor for the game, while DePaul was 17-for-54 (31.5%). The Hall was 5-for-17 (29.4%) from three-point range, while the Blue Demons were 5-for-20 (25.0%).
  • Masonius had a team-high 21 points to go with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.
  • DePaul out-rebounded The Hall, 43-to-40, which included a 16-to-13 edge on the offensive glass.
  • Eads tallied 18 points, six rebounds and two steals.
  • Seton Hall was 15-for-20 (75.0%) from the free-throw line, while DePaul was 16-for-25 (64.0%).
  • Catalon had 15 points, a career-high eight rebounds and was 9-for-9 from the free-throw line.
  • Seton Hall forced 18 turnovers, while the Blue Demons forced only five. The Hall had an 18-to-3 advantage in points-off-turnovers.
  • Amari Wright (Jacksonville, Fla.) had a strong game with six points, five rebounds, eight assists and only two turnovers.




THE NOTES:
  • Seton Hall improves to 16-5 overall and 8-2 in BIG EAST play, while DePaul falls to 11-13 overall and 6-5 in conference play.
  • The Hall is now 10-24 all-time against the Blue Demons and has won five of the last six meetings.
  • Today was the 130th career game played for Wright, which ties her with former Pirate great Tabatha Richardson-Smith for the most in Seton Hall history.
  • Seton Hall's five turnovers are a season-low.
  • It's the 17th time in 21 games that the Pirates have forced more turnovers than their opponent.
  • With 15 points today, Catalon surpassed the 400-points mark for her career.
  • DePaul is Seton Hall's 13th opponent held to 55 points or fewer this season. The Pirates are a perfect 13-0 in those games
  • Masonius scored at least 20 points for the seventh time this season, which leads The Hall.
  • With two steals today, Yaya Lops (Stamford, Conn.) reached the 100-steals milestone for her career.
