FOX in advanced discussions about renewing this series beyond this year to promote its assets.

Does this mean FOX is advancing programming with The Big East?

I have no inside information as to whether Fox wants to or will renew with the Big East, but I wouldn’t say this is an indication that FOX is advancing programming with the Big East. The Gavitt games could easily be packaged as part of the Big Ten’s new deal with Fox.

From the Fox perspective, it would be a huge loss if they lost the BE to ESPN. Of course we want to stick with FOX so Val has to work ESPN to increase the $.
Remember that after the Catholic 7 broke away with Fox and MSG , ESPN came publicly and said that the BE left money on the table going with FOX. So in my opinion ESPN would love to cause FOX to be butt hurt like they were 10 years ago.

Fox has far more content today so the BE, while attractive, has modest leverage against FOX. ESPN seems to be struggling. Football totally drives the bus and the BE doesn’t have it.

After reading catholicman's (with a lowercase "c") response, I read up on Val's background and experience. Val is extremely impressive and has navigated the newest version of the Big East brilliantly. She's lead a conference that has won 3 NCAA basketball championships over the last 9 tournaments. I've included the link to Val's Wiki page and can't understand why anyone wouldn't trust her to get things done.

The tv package we ultimately enter into this year is absolutely essential for the Big East remaining relevant going forward. When the original BE was formed it was tv that led the way to success along with a number of coaches who drew media attention like Louie and Rollie and Thompson and PJ and others even JB in Cuse. With all the changes in the power five 5 conferences drawing attention and seeing us on a major sports network is the top priority for VAL.

Visibility is more important than maximizing revenue.
Very True ! The importance of remaining visible on tv and the importance of increasing tv revenue in this new era of “ play for play“ makes it a difficult task for Val and what Is the more important in agreeing on a deal .

There is little doubt that Ackerman knows what she’s doing. The BE made a great decision to hire her. But she has her work cut out. It’s a challenging and unpredictable environment. I still say she gets a positive new media deal done.

I agree. With UConn winning the tournament, the coaches in the league and strength of the league, the Big East should be a hot ticket moving forward. I imagine that there is a high concentration of college basketball viewers in our footprint as well.
