I thought the usual practice is to start a post-game thread after the game. That's why is started this.
Anyway, Blue, to answer your question, DePaul was desperate and trying to make a comeback. The refs made a quick decision and gave possession to DePaul at Depaul's end with Bruno all over it.
Bozzella and DeFalco were on fire and implored/demanded that the refs review the decision. Sure enough, the ball went to SHU.
Not only did DePaul not get a change to score, the Pirates got the ball, Richardson was fouled and she hit both free throws. I think it extended the lead to seven.
It was a significant swing at an important time.
Powell was amazing the last game, hitting six threes in first half. (She didn't take one in the second.)
It's a big deal that she carried over that shooting touch to DePaul by hitting 5-5. That's big time on her part. Now the opponents need to worry about another weapon.
TRS is displaying such body control that it's beautiful to watch. The announcer said she looks as if she's "gliding" when she drives down court. Her offense and defense are so outstanding.
I mentioned a few days ago that when Richardson looks to control the ball/pass first, the Pirates are a different team. Today she had seven assists. She possibly took too many shots, and went one-on-three too many times. But overall, it was a great 36 minutes.
Strangely, Kuderer and Smith did not get in the game.
If two things happen this team could go on a major streak:
First, if Jones starts hitting threes regularly again, this team could run the table into the NCAA. Today she was 0-5 yet the Pirates won. She did grab 10 rebounds.
Second, for the fourth time in the last five games the Pirates offense and defense sharply dropped in the second period. Why? If that stop they will also be unstoppable.
It's a great time for the Pirates. I really hope they take care of business on Sunday because I'd love to see a loud sellout at home the following Sunday v. St. John's.
Go Pirates!
