Will miss the debate tonight since I'll be at the game, but this will likely be the most meaningful of the Democratic debates with Bloomberg's coming out party. All of the other candidates will come loaded for bear (as will the panelists), and it's his first impression on the stage with the others. What does Bloomberg do?

If I were him, I would do a pre-emptive strike and say "I'm not here to attack anyone or be attacked....I will make my case why I would be the best choice to lead this country forward and use that as a springboard to focus on the issues. If he gets into a mud match or gets too wordy on defending past positions, he becomes one of the others. Bernie has had success as an outsider (and so did Trump)...America is sick of career politicians and Bloomberg has to make his case as his version of an outsider IMO. He also can't make it about Trump or else he's no different from anyone else...he should dismiss him and go back to the issues and his plan. Will I be in any mood to watch it tonight...hopefully after we win!

Didn't get to see any of the date last night. Any thoughts?

Hot takes in my online bubble say it was a bad night for Bloomberg, and Warren/Biden had the best night.

Watched the first hour this morning on DVR:

- Bloomberg woefully unprepared, body language horrible and was attacked nonstop. Spends $400 million and knew he was going to be attacked...awful performance
- Bernie was Bernie...how many times did he say “billionaaaaiiir”? A lot.
- Buttigieg - he is trying to impersonate Obama...came across as petty with Klobuchar
- Klobuchar - had a lot of one-liners but no substance...morgue make-up disturbing...kept reminding everyone that she’s a woman
- Biden - every answer is “number one....blah, blah, number two, blah blah. Tried to make the case that Obama made all those decisions with him. Continued to fumble and mumble. He’s done after Super Tuesday
- Warren - attacked everybody out of desperation. Lots of one liners but it’s like watching someone use someone else’s material. She lacks authenticity

Overall, it was a shit show of attacks and pettiness. Embarrassing...They all criticize Trump for being juvenile (which he is), so they all act like juveniles. My take: Bernie is the nominee

My take: Bernie is the nominee

At this point, I think that is the likeliest scenario.
Probably need at least three (and maybe 4) of Warren, Amy, Pete, Biden and Bloomberg to drop out very soon for them to overcome Bernie's lead after super Tuesday for any of them to have a chance.

Watched a bit last night. Yikes, Bloomberg is not prepared for this at all.

While some of it was cringey and painful, I didn't mind the gloves off approach. This is desperation time for all of them. If they can't make a dent into Bernie's polling lead, this is going to be over on March 17th with Bernie running away with the nomination.

The thing that boggles my mind is that these debates have gotten out of control. It does the DNC (or RNC) no good to have this format because it doesn't get to the issues and puts the candidates in embarrassing situations. All the moderators and MSM want to do is pit one against the other for ratings and they completely control the process. Why doesn't one candidate (all more) just step up and call this out on the debate stage? I would have much more respect for any candidate if they did.

They turned the debates into a political reality "Survivor" and they all play along. And we wonder why a TV personality who ran a reality show is President!

All the debates, whether DNC/RNC/general election, are silly, everyone debates as if they are running for dictator with all of their "plans".

How about we elect a president who will do the job according to the job description in the Constitution? You don't MAKE law, you ENFORCE the laws as they are written, you CEO the federal government, bring the different factions together and help negotiate, etc.

There were a few candidates early on that did call that out, but that doesn't get you supporters and donations unfortunately. Look at Warren for example, she came out in attack mode and raised one million dollars during the debate.

You're absolutely right.

Well anyone interviewing to become CEO would also lay out their vision and plans for what kind of CEO they would be, so similar in that sense. But you are right in that they need to convince the voters (or board of directors) that there is a path to accomplishing their goals.

^ That is also why I am supporting Buttigieg this time around. I think he is uniquely positions to bring people together as president. (Amy could also do well here) I am worried that the rest of the field will create more division in the country.

This is where the DNC and RNC need to step in on setting ground rules for the debates. They need to control the process or accept that they will end up getting candidates that yell the loudest, are best at attack and raise the most money. Is that what they really want?

I agree that Bloomberg looked bad, bud don't think he was as hurt as many feel. This kind of stand-and-deliver show has never been his strength. His contrast to Bernie's Democratic Socialism is stark. I think Warren peaked too early. Her sing-songy stories have many by now rolling their eyes.

Impact on Bloomberg will be interesting. He is polling really well in states which probably haven't had much exposure to him at all outside of his ads.

He was really, really bad...
