Have to blame the high hierarchy for not clamping down and letting it continue. This guy was a charmer, a poster boy who had the laity fawning over him.

It is a very sad story. This ahole was known amongst many in the clergy as Uncle Teddy. He had no brothers and sisters so he could not have any nieces or nephews so his name was created by him to probably groom victims and he used to call himself that to younger priests. A number of priests who had heard about his escapades should have gone to the police. Understand that he flew back and forth so many times to kiss the popes ring and ass and he was very connected to the higher ups and told everyone that was connected very high up there so priests probably did not want to lose their pensions. With that said what he did was disgusting and far worse than many priests knew and he should have been reported and looking the other way is as bad a sin as what he did.
Your call out of conservative Catholics is uncalled for and typical. Any Catholic I know thinks this is about the worst thing someone can do and hopes he burns in hell forever as well as the scandal. It wasn't the conservative Catholics that protected him it was the hierarchy which was obviously a huge problem. There are still many good priests out there that are doing great, charitable work for the poor and Catholics. McCarrick was a scumbag for many years unfortunately.

I will make a deal with you. I will comment fairly on every article you can find about the church, but you have to comment fairly on every situation of a black life lost to a non police officer. Deal? I have no problem admitting the Catholic Church isn’t perfect. No organization in the world is perfect but I know Jesus and I talk to God and I’m strong in my faith despite the Catholic Church’s imperfections.
Yesterday in another thread that was moved here there was a reply that used specific verbiage about a hypothetical donation giver that is a conservative catholic no longer giving said donation to the school because of what a student athlete may or may not do prior to a game...

Well then that is one single poster you are referring to. You started your post calling out plural Conservative Catholics. So your excuse above doesn't even make sense or your tense is off but me thinks this isn't the first time you have called out Catholics. No group is perfect. So who is racist lumping all Catholics together?
Last time I checked one can't be racist vs any religion because religion is not race. Regardless I welcome all faiths and belief systems.

What are you thoughts on the woke NBA with China? Any human rights violations we should be concerned with? Sweat shops?
I have given my thoughts on it. Primarly I am against all forms of oppresion to all humans anywhere. While I admire specific republican senators for taking such a vested interest in NBA/China...why are these sentators not doing more for their own home states that they represent? Josh Hawley Missouri, Anheuser Busch is big there. Why is he not speaking out against them and their business in China.
In general why is the NBA skewed differently than NHL, MLB and NFL who all have business and revenue streams in China.
Is everyone here on this board an anti Made in China person? Right now I feel it would be hard to live a life as a US Citizen and not use or be involved with something that is not manufactured in China.
Also, want to point out main China media distrubtor of NBA in prior seasons has not done any NBA inventory this season and two or three other streaming partners have been less engaged than they would typically be.
I will give a comparison to a kid in middle school being a bully on the block. While I am concerned that he is stealing my neighbors kids lunch money, I would be that much more concerned if he were stealing my kids lunch money.
Main NBA particpants are black americans, they are going to feel a certain way on social justice events in their own country first. Based on how they have grown up and dealt with racism they are gonna speak out against that first.

But in the interest of inclusiveness, while we're calling out the church for its failings why don't we also call out the recent string of attacks against it.

In my attempt to play on a theme from another thread, I used a specific phrase used in a reply on that thread to call attention to that specific catholic group. I am not anti any religion and welcome all to practice their faith and beliefs how they wish. I aim for this to be a message of contrition.

That is all that needs to be said, actually. It is the view of Conservative Catholics. We are impatiently waiting for a report that has been two years in the making and still not close to being released. Homisexuals are pretty much running things and protecting their own The better question is "Where are the liberal Catholics?" And I say once again, this is not pedophelia. This is homosexual abuse, but liberal Catholics seem quite comfortable with the problem, witness Tobin, Cupich and a host of other prelates, going back to Bernadin.
