Gonzo is on ESPN radio talking about college hoops and the upcoming tournament. I'll tell you he really knows the game. He had some personal issues but it is now a few years later and most everyone should get a second chance in life & I hope he does get another chance at coaching. No I'm not suggesting here at SHU but one thing about Bobby is that his teams played with passion & he knew how to motivate. There is no question in my mind that this years Pirate team would have had a better record if Gonzalez was coaching.

As crazy as Bobby was, my 14 year old son longs for the energy and fire that he brought to the bench. Many times he had commented that we would be much better under Bobby. Even a 14 year old sees the lack of passion emanating from Willard.

He made mistakes but I agree that everyone deserves a chance at redemption

Basketball has been his life's work and he deserves a shot at using it in some form to earn a living for his family

And while I'm in no way wistful for the BG era, no doubt this team would have been at least in the mix or maybe even safely in the tourney tomorrow, with Bobby g at the helm

Bobby had passion but he was ran a messy program.

We would have one more games with him but it was like living with an East Side kid who's always trying to beat the system.

No thanks.

I was not suggesting that Bobby be brought back to coach here. That would never happen nor should it, but it would be nice to have a head coach who has motivational skills.

Agree but he should have to earn his way back like anyone else. Is he prepared to do that?

Getting a second chance is going to be difficult for Bobby to get. Can you imagine the flak that the school that hired him would get if there was a problem concerning his personal behavior or the behavior of one of his players . The media would be all over that in a minute and every mistake Bobby made in the past would be brought up again.

Does Bobby deserve a second chance? Maybe but you would really have to make sure he has changed.

You are confusing the New York media with the media in the rest of the world.

Actually Tom, I think you're confusing 2015 for 1990.

He definitely deserves a chance somewhere. I've heard him on ESPN Radio before, he is a very good listen.

BG is coaching the Ralph Lauren Purse Snatchers in the Attica Industrial League. That ones for the Captain!

I think Hobbs said it best the day they announced Gonzo's firing. He was a "mercurial talent". Guy could coach, no doubt about it. I thought he could recruit too.

Unfortunately the bad outweighed the good during his time here.

I liken Bobby G and Kevin Bannon as similar very similar coaches. Both could coach basketball. I actually think Kevin Bannon was the better coach and had Rutgers on the brink of an NCAA tournament. I don't think there is any question that Gonzo over the last 5 years would have made it to the tournament. But both had personality issues that destroyed their careers.

You can also add another coach to that list and that is Mike Rice. Terrific coach as you can see the difference between the teams that Rice coached and what is on the court with Jordan.

If he had remained much longer than he did, we would be facing NCAA sanctions. He was a huge embarrassment.

I had doubts about his coaching. I admired his spirit to a degree but not much else. That we hired him just shows how rudderless we have been.
