SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.Tyler Burnham (East Brunswick, N.J.) earned the win on the mound in the Seton Hall baseball team's last no-hitter – a combined effort with four other Pirate hurlers against Iona on March 30, 2019.

In the series finale against Georgetown on Sunday, the senior spun a masterpiece of his own as he struck out a career-high 14 batters, leading the Pirates to a 2-0 victory and a series sweep. The Hall has won eight of their last 12 games and its 12 BIG EAST wins are the most in the conference.

Burnham – who finished with 128 pitches – tossed the program's first solo no-hitter since Zach Prendergast against Villanova on May 14, 2017. Seton Hall (19-15, 12-3 BIG EAST) now has five no-no's in school history.

The Hoyas appeared to have the upper hand early as the lead-off batter reached on a walk and moved to second on a balk. It would be the furthest a Georgetown baserunner would get all day as Burnham retired the side and recorded the final two outs of the inning via strikeout.

Burnham would go on to strike out five of the next seven batters he faced in the third and fourth innings before the Seton Hall offense provided some run support. In the bottom of fourth, senior Casey Dana (Montgomery, N.Y.) led off the inning with a double and he later moved to third on a groundout to the right side. Graduate student Connor Hood (Shrewsbury, Pa.) sent him home on a base hit to center field that gave Seton Hall a 1-0 lead.

Despite a walk with two outs in the fifth, Burnham continued to cruise as he recorded two more punchouts in the sixth and retired the side in order in the seventh. In the home half of that inning, another RBI single – this time off the bat of senior Jerry Huntzinger (Staten Island, N.Y.) – plated sophomore Jonathan Luders (Lynnfield, Mass.) from second base as the Pirates extended their advantage to 2-0.

It was all that Burnham would need. Graduate student Matt Toke (Three Bridges, N.J.) – who hit .467 (7-for-15) in the four-game series against the Hoyas – played excellent defense at first base as he has done his entire career at Seton Hall. He recorded the final out of the eighth after he fielded a ground ball himself and dove to tag the first base bag, beating the runner by a step, and he started the game-ending double play that required him to return back to first base to record the final out.

Up Next:

Seton Hall will next hit the road to face Xavier for a four-game series that will run from May 7-9.

I’m more surprised that’s the 5th in program history with 3 coming in the last 4 years. Only 2 before that???

They forgot to mention the perfect game, so it’s actually 4 in recent years.... I find it hard to believe that it’s not only correct, but that they have any sort of reliable records beyond when Shep Sr started

The AP story found it's way to ESPN.com. Late Sunday night it was the top story under College Sports headlines.

Tyler Burnham Ks 14 in 5th no-hitter in Seton Hall history

9:55 PM ET

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- Tyler Burnham struck out a career-high 14 while tossing the fifth no-hitter in Seton Hall history, leading the Pirates to a 2-0 victory over Georgetown on Sunday.

The senior left-hander from East Brunswick threw 128 pitches and walked four in the program's first solo no-no since Zach Prendergast's gem against Villanova in 2017. Burnham didn't allow a runner past second base.

This is the second time Burnham (3-3) has been involved in a no-hitter for Seton Hall: He earned the win as one of five pitchers in a combined effort against Iona in 2019.

Burnham got some defensive help in this one from first baseman Matt Toke. In the eighth inning, Toke fielded a grounder and dived back to the first base bag to beat AJ Lotsis by a step for the third out. Toke also started the game-ending 3-4-3 double play.

Connor Hood had an RBI single in the fourth inning, and Jerry Huntzinger singled down the left-field line in the seventh to drive in the other run for Seton Hall (19-15), which leads the Big East with a 12-3 conference record.

Nolan McCarthy (0-1) allowed two runs and eight hits in 6 1/2 innings to take the loss for Georgetown (4-13, 4-10).

I remember seeing one of the prior no-hitters. Back in 1990 at home vs uconn I believe.
